When it comes to SUVs, a few names come to mind immediately. In the affordable 4×4 SUV segment, we currently have cars like the Mahindra Thar, Maruti Jimny, and Force Gurkha. In terms of popularity, the Mahindra Thar is, without a doubt, the most popular. It has a huge fan base, and almost everyone loves it for its road presence, styling, and powerful engine options. However, in an interview, an Indian singer and rapper shared that he does not like the Mahindra Thar and called the Jeep Wrangler better.

The video was shared by micmagiccast on their Instagram page. In the video, rapper Badshah is seen having a conversation with Saurabh Dwivedi. The interview was part of Saurabh’s show Lallantop, one of India’s most popular vernacular digital-first news ventures known for its political coverage and new-age writing style.
In the interview, Saurabh asks Badshah about the expensive cars he owns. Badshah mentions that he owns a Rolls-Royce Ghost, which costs close to Rs 7 crore. He also spoke about the G-Wagen. However, when asked about comfort, Badshah took a step back and said that he feels the Maruti Swift and Toyota Innova are the best vehicles in the Indian market in terms of ride quality.
The anchor wanted to add another vehicle to the list: the Mahindra Thar. To this, Badshah objected, telling Saurabh that he did not agree. He mentioned that while he is a big fan of Anand Mahindra’s vision and the way he does business, he has never been a fan of the Mahindra Thar.
He even went ahead and said that the Jeep Wrangler is better than the Mahindra Thar. The anchor then told Badshah that a modified Mahindra Thar offers good comfort, but Badshah countered that point as well. He did not agree with the anchor in this clip and stood by his opinion of the Mahindra Thar.
The Mahindra Thar is a utilitarian vehicle. It is not comfortable, and we agree with Badshah. He is actually on the right side of the debate. The Thar does not offer a comfortable ride, which is a problem many Thar owners face. Even the Maruti Suzuki Jimny offers ride quality that is superior to the Thar. This is mainly due to the stiff suspension and short wheelbase design of the Thar, which result in a less-than-ideal driving experience.
Is the Thar Roxx different?
Mahindra recently launched the Thar 5-door, or Mahindra Thar Roxx, in the market. Bookings and deliveries for the 5-door SUV will start soon. We feel Badshah might have had a different opinion of the Thar if he had driven the Roxx. The suspension setup and tuning are now different. At low speeds, it might feel stiff, but as you pick up speed, the suspension’s character changes and offers more comfort. The longer wheelbase is also a factor in this improvement.
Beyond ride comfort, Mahindra has loaded the Roxx with premium features like ventilated seats, level 2 ADAS, leatherette upholstery, a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and more.
