Road Rage Between Cabbie And SUV Driver In Bengaluru: Who Is Wrong Here? [Video]

cabbie vs suv driver bengaluru road rage

Instances of intense road rage and violence by cabbies are becoming usual sights these days. The latest incident is from Whitefield, Bangalore.  A dashcam recording shared on Twitter shows how a guy driving a Black car was bullied and attacked by a rogue cabbie. There are, however, a lot of layers to this incident. Also, this is another example of scenarios in which dashcams become saviors. Have a look at the video before we delve into the details:

The video is dated August 5, 2024, and seems to have been recorded using a Redtiger F7N dash camera. The incident happened near Shantinikethan/Big Bazaar stop, after which the owner took to X to explain what really happened. In the beginning, the car owner is seen driving through a road with heavy traffic. He overtakes two cabs in front of him, through the left.  One of them is an Etios and the other an Indica. Soon after, the Indica makes a comeback and pushes him off the road. In the process, the two cars get so close to each other that both owners think they have scratched their cars.

The cabbie then forces the guy to stop by boxing him in. He is left with no option to escape. The cabbie gets out and starts yelling at and abusing the guy. The guy is seen responding to the verbal abuse but later yells back and asks the cabbie to settle the matter at the police station. The cab guy gets more aggressive and demands the driver to get out of his car. He further tries to open the door and reach inside the window, to which the guy puts up a strong resistance. He uses a pepper spray to defend himself.

The driver then goes back to his cab. He gets a pair of pliers and rushes back to the Black car. He then smashes his rearview mirror and tries to break the window glass. He fails even after striking multiple blows. He then thinks of attempting a puncture, but soon gives up on the idea. He, however, managed to cause damage to the bonnet and headlamps. The guy says he was scared for life and tried to stay inside the car, till when he finally got a chance to escape.

An old man is also seen in the video, who instead of trying to settle the matter and save the car owner, scolded him. In fact, he let the cabbie vandalize the guy’s car.

Who Is At Fault Here?

Going by the dashcam recording, both parties seem to have had mistakes on their respective parts. The fault with the car guy was that he abused the cabbie. He was as aggressive as the cabbie would get in the later sections of the video. Also, it was him who started the entire series of events, as he had done the aggressive wrong side overtaking first. As things escalated, he even used pepper spray on the cab driver.

The cabbie cannot be blamed, at least in the start of the video. He was the one who was abused by the SUV driver, and it’s natural for anyone to get riled up. This made him even more aggressive. Sheer rage and ego can be seen here. His fault was that he tried to vandalize the car, and caused damage to it. Should it have lasted any longer, he could have attempted an attack on the car driver as well.

The dent on the Indica seems to be already present at the time of the incident. The cabbie tried to blame this on the car driver and potentially get compensation for the same. This could also be labelled as his fault.

The advantage that the car driver got in this case, is the dashcam he had on the vehicle. Since he had almost everything captured on video, he could use it to play the victim on social media and get public attention and potential compensation for his damages. Another interesting thing to note is that neither of the cars touched each other in the incident. The entire aggression and fight was thus, for nothing!
