Sunroofs have become so popular among car buyers that they often make or break a deal. This feature was once exclusive to premium cars, but now even lower-segment cars offer it. While people in India are enthusiastic about sunroofs, they may not realize that the country’s weather conditions are not ideal for using them. Many people are also unaware of how to use this feature properly, which is why we often see individuals standing through the sunroof. Here, we have a video demonstrating why one should never stand out of the sunroof of a moving car.
The video was shared by JAASEasyCrafts on their YouTube channel as a short. In the footage, we see two men standing through the sunroof of a Kia Carnival on a narrow street. The Kia Carnival in the video is the older model. The manufacturer will soon be launching the next generation of this MPV in India.
The Carnival features twin sunroofs, large enough for two people to stand through. Judging by the video, it seems the men were trying to create content for social media or show off to their friends. We see the Kia Carnival pick up speed on the narrow road with the men standing through the sunroof. As the vehicle approached the cameraman, the men began posing for the video or photo.
However, it appears the driver had other plans. He applied the brakes suddenly. It’s unclear whether the driver had to brake because of an obstacle on the road or if it was part of a prank. The men standing through the sunroof were not expecting this.
Both of them hit their heads on the roof of the car. It must have hurt, but it could have been much worse. They could have been thrown from the moving vehicle, leading to serious injuries. This is not the first time we’ve seen such an incident. Both men appeared shocked, clearly unprepared for what happened.
Standing Out of the Sunroof is Dangerous and Illegal
Standing through a sunroof or any window of a moving vehicle is considered a stunt on public roads and is illegal. In fact, all passengers in India are required to wear seatbelts while the car is in motion. Failing to do so can result in a hefty fine from the police. In the past, there have been instances where motorists were fined for standing through the sunroof while driving on public roads.
What is the Purpose of a Sunroof?
Sunroofs are designed for air circulation. In India, where many cities are highly polluted, using a sunroof is often impractical. This leads some people to mistakenly believe that sunroofs are meant for standing through to feel the wind on their face.
Keeping the windows open at high speeds can cause air to hit your eyes directly, leading to discomfort or problems. The sunroof allows air to circulate without creating excessive wind disturbance.
However, many people misuse the sunroof by standing through it. This is extremely dangerous, especially for children, as sudden braking could throw them out. Additionally, debris, such as small stones from other vehicles, may strike them and cause injury. Overhead electric wires also pose a serious threat to those standing through the roof.
