Massive Unmarked Speed-Breaker Causes 7 Accidents In 15 Minutes [Video]

Speed breakers were designed to make drivers reduce their speed on roads near public institutions like schools, hospitals, and other places. However, over the years, these speed breakers have become a menace. There are a number of unmarked speed breakers on roads in India which, instead of reducing speeds, are increasing accidents. Most recently, a video of one such massive unmarked speed breaker from Dehradun has been shared online. In this clip, we can see numerous cars and bikes getting damaged due to this breaker.

Unmarked speed breaker causes accidents

The video showing the accidents caused by an unmarked speed breaker has been shared on X by Doon Mirror and Gabbar. In this short 2-minute video, it can be noted that not one, not two, but multiple cars and bikes were involved in accidents due to this massive speed bump. The video starts by showing a Maruti Suzuki Dzire taxi driving over this speed breaker and damaging its front end.

Soon after this, a blue Suzuki Access 125 scooter rider, who was carrying a little more speed, was seen falling. He drove over the speed bump and immediately fell. We can note that both the rider and his vehicle were sliding on the road. What’s surprising is that he immediately stands up and goes to recover his scooter.

Apart from this, the video also continues to show other bikers and scooters almost getting into accidents. A Hyundai Santro driver also had to press the brakes abruptly to avoid damage to his car. Meanwhile, a Skoda Laura driver, who did not notice this unmarked speed breaker, caused some damage to the front of his car as it went slightly airborne.

Kid got injured

What’s even more unfortunate is that the video shows the aftermath of another accident caused by this speed breaker. It can be noted that a young kid, who was with his parents on a two-wheeler, fell along with them. Due to this fall, he was injured and was crying relentlessly. According to people in the background, there was a multi-vehicle collision due to this speed breaker.

In the clip, people can be heard expressing their anger over this unmarked speed bump erected by the authorities. The person recording the video can be heard explaining that in just the last 15 minutes, this particular accident is the seventh, which makes this speed breaker a huge issue for public safety.

A number of netizens have reshared this video clip online and have expressed their frustration. One of the users commented, “This country will never progress as long as these babus and these Kotwals are treated like the absolute gods… the judiciary, executive, these govt jobs wale are held accountable and made to realise they’re just doing their job, which they don’t.”

Meanwhile, another person added, “@DehradunPolice @ukcmo Please arrest the contractor who was given the contract of making the speed breaker, who left it unfinished by failing to paint a zebra pattern on it. Also, the speed breaker seems larger than necessary.”

Authorities reply

At the moment, there is no official statement that has been given by the Dehradun Municipal Corporation. However, as the video is gaining traction on the internet, it will most likely grab the attention of the authorities. Now, whether this speed breaker gets removed or not, we will have to wait for further updates.

Is this speed-breaker legal?

From what we can note, the size of this speed breaker exceeds the size allowed by the government. In India, speed breakers can only be 4–6 inches tall, and they should have a smooth gradient so that they do not damage vehicles or cause issues to drivers and passengers. However, this particular speed breaker is clearly massive.

Another very important rule while making a speed breaker is that it should be visible from a distance. For this, the authorities need to mark it with paint and other reflective material. However, this particular speed bump is unmarked, which is why these accidents are taking place.
