Iron Rods From Tata Ace Pierce Windshield Of Indica: Caught On Camera

We have come across several videos on the internet showing how dangerous it is to drive on Indian roads. One has to be extremely careful as our roads are filled with surprises. Careless driving, along with the lack of basic sense on the road, often becomes a recipe for disaster. Here, we have a video where iron rods carried on a Tata Ace slide off and pierce into a Tata Indica that was crossing the road.
The video has been shared by Raj Maji on his Instagram page. The incident happened in a place near Kolhapur, Maharashtra. The whole incident was captured on a CCTV camera in the area. The accident happened on a highway near Kaneriphata.
In this video, we see a Tata Indica trying to get to the other side of the highway. The Indica driver slowly joined the road and started crawling to the other side. As the Indica came halfway across the road, the Tata Ace carrying iron rods started approaching.
The driver either didn’t get enough time to slow down or he was distracted. Whatever the case may be, the driver applied hard brakes, and because of the weight of the rods that the pickup was carrying, the rods moved forward and fell off the truck. The rods were left loose, and it was clear from the video that these rods were not secured.
The loose iron or metal rods came towards the Tata Indica, and a couple of these rods went straight through the front windshield of the hatchback. The car came to a stop almost immediately, and the driver of the pickup and locals gathered around the car.
Luckily, the driver in the Tata Indica escaped unhurt, and it also looks like there was no one else in the vehicle. The caption of the video mentions that the rod, which was protruding from a tempo, shattered the car's glass and reached the driver's seat. Onlookers were stunned, and chaos erupted in the area.
If there was anyone else in the vehicle, the chances of them getting injured seriously were pretty high. In this case, we feel both the Tata Indica driver and the driver of the Tata Ace share responsibility for this incident.
We feel if the Indica driver had paid a bit more attention to the road and spotted that the Tata Ace was carrying heavy metal rods and was approaching fast, he should have stopped and waited for the pickup to pass.
When the car driver started crossing, he simply created issues for the tempo driver. He was carrying a heavy load, and that changes a lot of things, including the handling and braking behaviour of the vehicle.
The weight of the rods was not balanced, and that is the reason why the rods moved forward and pierced through the glass. A tempo carrying a load like metal rods will take more distance and time to slow down when compared to a regular car. Sudden braking will result in what we saw here in the video.
The Tata Ace driver should have been careful too. He should have ideally tied the rods and secured them to ensure that an accident like this never happens. We cannot be sure, but it looks like the tempo was overloaded. The tempo driver should also have stayed alert, decreased speed, and taken all safety precautions before starting the trip.
