Vande Bharat trains have changed the way people look at long-distance journeys. This long-distance superfast express service, operated by Indian Railways, has gained popularity among passengers in a very short span of time. Till now, we only have chair cars in Vande Bharat trains. However, Indian Railways is planning to introduce the sleeper version on certain routes as well. The testing for Vande Bharat sleeper trains has started, and recently, a video of the Vande Bharat passenger train achieving 180 kmph has gone viral on the internet.

The video has been shared by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways. In this video, we see a Vande Bharat train being tested as it passes through a station. The minister posted the video with the caption, “Vande Bharat (Sleeper) testing at 180 kmph.” In the video, we also see a clip from the cabin of the Vande Bharat train. A glass filled with water is placed on the tray table inside the train.
We also see a mobile phone kept on a holder next to the glass. On the screen of the mobile phone, the speed of the train is visible. The train was traveling at 178 kmph when the video started, but the speed gradually increased, and the train touched the 180 kmph mark. Not only did it achieve this speed, but it also maintained it for quite some time.
During this time, the glass and the water in it remained stable. This clip demonstrates how smooth the ride on the Vande Bharat train will be, even at high speeds. The first Vande Bharat sleeper train is likely to run between New Delhi and Srinagar. Later, the services will be extended to other routes as well.
The train touched a speed of 180 kmph as part of the ongoing testing. Multiple tests have been conducted by the Ministry of Railways over the last couple of days. The testing will continue until the end of January before the train receives the final nod or green flag. The train reached the peak speed of 180 kmph during a 30-km-long run between Kota and Laban in the Bundi district of Rajasthan.
Earlier, the train had touched the 180 kmph mark during a 40-km run between Rohal Khurd and Kota. After the video went viral, the ministry stated, “On the same day, peaks of 170 kmph and 160 kmph were achieved on the Kota-Nagda and Rohal Khurd-Chau Mahla sections. These trials will continue throughout January under the supervision of RDSO, Lucknow.”
Once the trials are over, the train will be evaluated by the Railway Safety Commissioner at maximum speed. After passing this final evaluation, it will be inducted into Indian Railways for regular service.
“With these successful trials, rail commuters can look forward to a world-class travel experience in long-distance travel, such as Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Delhi to Mumbai, Howrah to Chennai, and many other routes,” the ministry said.
The Vande Bharat train is a semi-high-speed, long-distance electric multiple unit (EMU) train designed to replace the Rajdhani Express. The train is capable of reaching a speed of 200 kmph, making it one of the fastest trains in the country.
