Driving on icy roads is one thing that every car driver, no matter how skilled they are, fears. It is because one wrong decision can end with their car in a ditch or, in the worst-case scenario, going off a cliff. Recently, showing how dangerous it is to drive on black ice, a video has been shared online. In this short clip from Himachal Pradesh, a Hyundai Creta, Venue, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, and even an excavator sliding uncontrollably have been shown.

Uncontrollable sliding on icy hilly roads
This video, showing multiple cars sliding on a road with thick ice, has been shared on Reddit. It starts off with the person recording the video showing a white-colored Hyundai Creta on top of a slope. He explains that all of the vehicles that start sliding from the top only stop after reaching down at a different point.
Soon after this, we can note that the Hyundai Creta does not stop and slowly drives. Unfortunately, the driver could not control the vehicle, and due to this, the vehicle started sliding and slowly started going towards the wall. During this time, the person recording the video shouts and asks the driver not to apply brakes.
However, the driver does not listen to the person. We can see that all four wheels of this Hyundai Creta were not moving, yet it was sliding. Soon after this, we can note that, on the same spot, two Mahindra Bolero pickup trucks were also sliding, and they went and crashed into the wall.
Following this, the cameraman shows a Hyundai Venue sub-compact SUV that was stuck on the left side of the road. He explained that had the vehicle not stopped on time, it would have fallen off the cliff.
What was more horrifying was that an excavator with tracks instead of wheels also started sliding uncontrollably. It can be noted from the video that there were a number of people on the road when this excavator started sliding.
The video also shows that these people started running in different directions before the excavator eventually crashed onto the side of the road. All of these clips were shot on December 9th at the Solang Valley in Himachal Pradesh.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga drifting
Soon after these clips, another short clip recorded at the Doodhpathri Valley in Kashmir has also been shared. In this short video, a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga taxi MPV can be seen sliding on a turn. We can also observe that there were a few men standing outside the vehicle and sliding along with it.
Thankfully, the person who was standing outside the front driver’s side left the car and fell away from the vehicle. Soon after this, the Ertiga goes into the turn, drifting on the icy road, and made a 180-degree turn. A number of people were also seen falling and sliding on the icy road.
Avoid driving on black ice
As stated earlier, driving on black ice is one of, if not the hardest, things to do. During such conditions, the tires of any vehicle cannot create contact with the tarmac due to the presence of thick ice. Hence, they start sliding uncontrollably, and it becomes nearly impossible to control the direction in which the vehicle is going.
So, in order to avoid crashing into the sides of the roads or any other vehicle, it is advised to stop the car on the side of the road and wait till the authorities clear the ice on the road. Now, some people may be wondering if they can drive their 4X4 cars in such conditions.
Well, the answer to this is that only if your vehicle is equipped with snow chains can you drive on ice. However, even with snow chains, if the driver is a novice, they can cause an accident. So, it is better to wait for the time when the road gets cleared.
