Indian fugitive and former businessman Vijay Mallya’s Maybach 62 has surfaced in the used car market. The MT 2004 luxury sedan is now available for purchase at Big Boy Toyz (BBT)- one of the largest luxury pre-owned car dealers in the country. A recent YouTube video shows this car in detail.

This Maybach gets a Black- Brown dual-tone colourway. The whole body wears Black. But the side panels get the signature Maybach Golden colour. There is a tasteful use of Chrome as well.

Almost all of the exterior highlights can be seen in the video. It shows the dual projector-beam headlamps and their washers. The front gets a large Maybach grille and the Maybach mascot. Further, the alloy wheels are likely 18-inch units.

The cabin gets a White-Beige dual-tone colourway with generous wood inserts. Plush wood inserts can be seen on the steering wheel, central console, door pads, dashboard and front armrest. The steering gets the luxurious Maybach logo as well. The doors are quite heavy, and the rear door, in particular, is very large. This facilitates easy ingress and egress.

Despite being a 2004 model, this car is packed with features. The steering wheel gets controls for both the infotainment unit and the instrument cluster. The infotainment seems to be physical button-based, in terms of operation. The rear seat is the key attraction of this Maybach. With plush upholstery and comfortable designs, these would keep you pampered at all times.

The car comes with a retractable partition between the driver and rear compartments. This can also be turned opaque- all electrically, through the press of a few buttons. There is generous legroom for the rear occupants. They also get dedicated displays, an entertainment system, a dedicated DVD player, remote controls, and even Maybach-spec mobile phones. The rear seats can also recline, are ventilated and offer massage functions- which are not shown in the video.

The car also has a glass roof that can turn transparent or opaque with the press of a button. The occupants can choose the transparency levels. It gets integrated ambient lighting as well. Maybach has named this the ‘Sky Roof’.

Further enhancing the rear occupant comfort is the large windows and glass area. These make sure that the occupants stay clear of being claustrophobic at all times. The experience inside is more or less limo-like.

Talking about powertrains, this car gets a 5.5 L (5513 cc) twin-turbocharged V12 petrol engine (Mercedes-Benz M285) that produces 550 bhp and a massive 900 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed automatic (5 G-Tronic) transmission and can do the 0-100kph run in around 4.8 seconds. This sedan comes with a Rear Wheel Drive layout. The BBT website says that this 4-door sedan has 33971 km on its odometer. Back in its day, buying this car would have set you back by around 5 crore rupees.

This Is The Real Maybach!

Seeing a Maybach in the used car market is no more rare. You might come over Maybach GLS600, S580 and S680 while browsing through used car advertorials. But did you know that these are more or less rebadged Mercedes Benz S Classes and GLS SUVs? At least for the purists, they are! The OG- the real Maybach models were the 57 and 62.

The 57 was for the people who preferred to drive while the 62 was for those who liked being chauffeured around. The OGs were a lot different from the Mercedes Benz models of their times and the Maybachs of today. This distinction adds more value to your buy, should you choose to take home Mallya’s Maybach 62! You are buying a piece of history, my friend…
