Upcoming Tata Altroz Vs Hyundai i20: Spec Comparison

Tata Motors is preparing for its newest launch in the Indian market- the facelifted Altroz hatchback. A host of changes are expected on the new car. The update is expected to pump new life into the Altroz which has lately been posting a downtrend in sales figures. The new Altroz will be able to put up a stronger fight against rivals like the Hyundai i20 and Maruti Baleno. Let's see how the new Altroz will fare against the i20, based on specifications alone...
As suggested by the previous leaks, the new Altroz will come with notable design changes. It will have a restyled front grille, new front bumpers, and an improved headlamp design with LED elements and good-looking DRLs. The i20 already offers LED headlamps with integrated DRLs. The rear lamps are also expected to be LED units, and will come with a full-width light bar.
Another interesting change expected on the new Altroz is the inclusion of flush-type door handles. The i20, however, continues to feature conventional pull-type units.
Inside the cabin, the new Altroz will feature a host of design changes and equipment revisions. While the overall layout will remain largely similar to what we used to see on the previous Altroz, the trims, materials, and details will be new and more upmarket.
The facelifted Altroz will come equipped with more features and technology. The higher variants will get the 10.25-inch freestanding touchscreen from the outgoing Racer variant. The 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster will come from the Nexon, and the climate control system will have touch-sensitive controls. The Hyundai comes with a digital instrument cluster, which however, isn't a one-piece.
The i20's infotainment system is a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen unit (the lower variants come with a smaller 8-inch unit), which comes with wired Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The new Altroz will feature wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay - an obvious upper hand!
The hatchback will also come with 360-degree camera, which uses feeds from four different cameras to stitch a birds-eye view. The i20, however, doesn't get this feature, and comes with a rear-view camera alone.
The i20 has been offering a single-pane sunroof for the past few years, and it looks like the Altroz is also going to get it finally. The facelift will feature a single pane sunroof with tilt function.
In the case of most other features, the two hatchbacks stand comparable, at least by the details that are already out. The real game lies in powertrain choices. The i20 skimps with the same, and comes with with a 1.2l naturally aspirated petrol engine alone. This powerhouse produces 83 PS and 114.7 Nm. The 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine comes only on the N-Line.
The Altroz will have a clear upper hand over the Hyundai with its powertrain choices. It will come with 1.5L diesel engine, 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and CNG powertrains. The turbo-petrol unit, which churns out 120hp stays limited to the Racer edition alone (In other words, the Racer will compete against the N-Line).
The 1.5L diesel engine was a popular pick among i20 buyers. However, Hyundai decided to axe this powertrain. The Altroz is, in fact, the only vehicle in its segment to offer a diesel engine.
The facelifted Altroz is expected to bring more traction in the premium hatchback space. It will put the outgoing i20 under more pressure. The revised equipment list, newer design and smart distribution of powertrains will likely give the Altroz the comeback it deserves. The pricing is going to be decisive in this case. If priced right, it will be able to put up a strong fight. More about this will be known closer to the launch.
