5 Big Changes Coming To Toyota Fortuner: ADAS & More

The Toyota Fortuner is one of the most popular SUVs currently on sale in its segment. In fact, it has been ruling this segment since its launch. Over the decades, competition has increased in this segment, and so has the price of the Fortuner. Toyota has increased the prices without making any major changes. It doesn’t offer as many features as its rivals, which has been a common complaint among buyers. However, it looks like Toyota is finally ready to introduce more features in its SUV. Here is a list of the big changes coming to the Toyota Fortuner.
We have come across several videos of the GR Sport variant of the Toyota Fortuner online, which comes with more features than the version sold in India. It is actually an international-spec Fortuner, and these updates are likely to make their way to India as well.
The first big change in the Fortuner is that it now gets ADAS (Autonomous Driver Assistance System). This is a feature that has become common in some sub-4-meter SUVs. However, Toyota has not yet offered this feature in the Fortuner, which costs around ₹60 lakh in some Indian cities.
Toyota launched the Innova Hycross with ADAS features, and these features are likely to be introduced in the Fortuner as well. This would make the Fortuner even more desirable.
Toyota had updated its infotainment screen some time ago, and with this update, the infotainment system started offering Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This feature was missing in the previous version. The current version on sale in India does offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but it doesn’t support them wirelessly. In the next update, Toyota is likely to offer this feature as well.
Last year, Toyota launched a mild-hybrid diesel version of the Fortuner in the international market. It was first introduced in South Africa. Months after the launch, confirmation came that the mild-hybrid technology would make its way to the Indian version as well.
The MHEV version of the Fortuner uses the same 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine. The engine is paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system that helps improve low-end torque and enhance fuel efficiency.
The 2.8-litre engine generates 201 PS and 500 Nm of peak torque. Internationally, it is available only with an automatic transmission, but we assume that Toyota will offer it with both manual and automatic versions in India.
Another feature that the Fortuner has been missing for a long time is a 360-degree camera. The Fortuner is a large SUV, and at times, parking and driving through narrow streets can be challenging. With a 360-degree camera, drivers can get a better view of their surroundings and maneuver the SUV more easily.
The last feature update expected in the Fortuner is a 100W power adapter. This is a handy addition compared to the regular USB ports found in most cars. A 100W power socket would allow occupants to charge electronic devices such as laptops and other gadgets while on the move.
