Maruti Suzuki is one of the largest and leading car manufacturers in India. While they have a wide variety of petrol and hybrid cars, they have yet to launch a pure EV. This delay in launching a new EV has worked in favor of brands like Tata, Mahindra, and MG. Maruti has been working on electric cars for quite some time, and we now know that the first EV from Maruti will hit the Indian market next year. Besides the upcoming electric SUV, Maruti has big plans for the Indian market when it comes to EVs. Here, we have a list of 6 new Maruti Suzuki EVs that are expected to come to the Indian market.

eVX

The first EV on this list is Maruti’s eVX electric SUV. The eVX concept was first showcased at the Auto Expo, and Maruti had announced that this will be the first pure EV for the Indian market. The upcoming electric SUV has been spotted testing on several occasions, and we have an idea of how the SUV would look.

The electric SUV is likely to have the same dimensions as the Grand Vitara SUV. The eVX will come with LED projector headlamps, a closed front grille with the Suzuki logo, muscular-looking front and rear bumpers, pillar-mounted door handles for the rear doors, electrically adjustable ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, LED tail lamps, a large floating-type touchscreen infotainment system, perforated leatherette upholstery, an all-new design for the dashboard and control switches, rotary dials for drive modes, and more.

The SUV is expected to be powered by a 55-60 kWh battery pack, offering a driving range of around 500-550 km. Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch this electric SUV at a very attractive price. The first EV is expected to be launched via Nexa dealerships.

Codenamed YMC, Maruti is not just working on an electric SUV but also an MPV. It will be based on the same skateboard platform as the eVX. The electric MPV is expected to be launched a year and a half after the launch of the eVX. The MPV is expected to share the same battery and electric motor as the SUV.

eWX

This is a concept that we saw at the Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS). A few months ago, Maruti filed a patent for their eWX electric hatchback in India. This means there is a possibility that we might see this electric hatchback in India. According to reports, the Suzuki eWX concept is 3,395 mm long, 1,475 mm wide, and 1,620 mm tall.

The eWX concept is a small car, and according to Suzuki, it will have a driving range of 230 km on a single charge. The tall-boy design is extremely popular in many markets, including India, as it makes the cabin look more spacious and roomier. This electric hatch might be the most affordable EV from Maruti Suzuki.

Fronx EV

While we know that Maruti is working on a strong hybrid version of the Fronx, there is a possibility that Maruti might introduce a pure electric version in the market too. The Fronx Hybrid will indirectly be an EV as it would use a less complex and affordable series hybrid system. In this system, the sole purpose of the engine is to charge the batteries in the car that power the electric motor.

Maruti might also come up with a pure electric version of the Fronx in the future. Considering that car manufacturers are moving towards electric vehicles, the chances of a Fronx EV cannot be completely ruled out.

Jimny EV

The next electric SUV that Maruti might launch in the future is the Jimny EV. There is no confirmation about the same from the manufacturer. However, we have come across several digitally rendered videos and images of what the electric version of the Jimny might look like. It would be similar to what Mercedes-Benz did with their G-Wagen.

EV Hatchback

Other than the eWX, Maruti might also bring in a small electric hatchback to the Indian market. The manufacturer might introduce this new electric hatchback to compete with the likes of the Tata Tiago.ev and MG Comet in the segment.
