Tata Motors made ripples in the Indian automotive market with the launch of the Curvv coupe SUV in India. The company has been consistently selling 4,300 units of this coupe SUV every month. However, in order to lure in more buyers, it is now working on the development of the Curvv iCNG model. Recently, a test mule of the Curvv iCNG was spotted in Pune. Most likely, the company will be launching the model during the festive season.

Tata Curvv iCNG: Details

As mentioned, the first sighting of the Tata Curvv iCNG took place near Swargate in Pune, Maharashtra. It was noted that this particular test mule was fully wrapped in a black and white camouflage. However, its sloping roofline was a dead giveaway that it was the Curvv. As for the testing of the vehicle, it was noted that there was no emission testing equipment in the rear of this test mule.

This suggests that the company is currently testing other equipment of this vehicle. Most likely, the Curvv iCNG will not boast any major exterior design changes. The only notable changes which we might see will include a couple of iCNG badges on the outside. Apart from this, the exterior and interior design will mostly remain the same.

At the moment, the exact details about the iCNG system used in the Curvv iCNG have not been revealed. However, it is believed that the company will be offering the Curvv with the same dual-cylinder iCNG technology as seen on the Nexon, Punch, and Altroz iCNG models. This system includes two smaller and separate CNG tanks which easily fit under the boot of the above-mentioned cars.

As part of the iCNG system, the Curvv iCNG will be offered with advanced safety features such as leak detection, fire protection device, thermal incident protection, rear impact protection, and many others. It will also get an advanced ECU, which will ensure that the vehicle could be directly started in CNG mode. Also, it will offer easy switchability between petrol and CNG modes.

In terms of the powertrain, the Curvv iCNG is expected to get the same engine and setup as the Nexon iCNG. It will be a 1.2-litre turbocharged engine which will make a total of 100 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque. It will most likely be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Most likely, the Curvv iCNG will be launched by the festive season of this year. The exact dates have not been revealed. However, this model is expected to make its debut around September–November of this year. As for the pricing, expect to see a price bump of Rs 1 lakh over the standard petrol and diesel Curvv. Also, with the launch of the iCNG model, the Curvv will become the second car in Tata’s lineup to offer petrol, diesel, electric, and CNG options.

The fully blacked-out units of the Curvv have already started arriving at the dealership yards across the country. Like all the other Dark Edition models, the Curvv Dark Edition also boasts a complete exterior body paint, #Dark badging on the fender, and a fully blacked-out interior with black leather seats. The exact date of launch will be revealed soon.
