BYD Sealion 7 Achieves Perfect 5-Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating
The newly launched premium electric SUV from the Chinese automotive giant BYD – the Sealion 7 – has managed to score a perfect 5-star safety rating at the Euro NCAP crash tests. For those who may not be aware, Euro NCAP is amongst the most stringent crash testing safety examinations. It was highlighted by Euro NCAP that the BYD Sealion 7 has passed with flying colors in various tests involving adult occupant, child occupant, and pedestrian safety crash tests.

As per Euro NCAP, the BYD Sealion 7 has managed to score 87 percent in the adult occupant protection tests. It also scored an impressive 93 percent in the child occupant protection tests. Lastly, in the pedestrian and cyclist safety tests, the BYD Sealion 7 scored 76 percent. The organisation added that there is room for improvement in the Autonomous Emergency Braking system of the vehicle.
The crash tests organised by Euro NCAP highlighted the Sealion 7 offers good whiplash protection. It was noted that the electric SUV has scored maximum points in frontal and side pole crash tests. Also, it offered good front crash protection for driver and front passengers. The only downside in terms of safety was for the rear passengers, which had weak protection in the full-width rigid barrier test.
BYD Sealion 7 safety tech
BYD offers its newly launched Sealion 7 electric SUV with a ton of safety features. These include 11 airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Its suite of ADAS offers adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and an emergency braking system, along with others.
BYD Sealion 7: Design
In terms of design, this unique electric SUV, which takes on rivals like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Volvo XC40, and Volvo C40 Recharge, gets a very premium design on the outside. It boasts a very sleek, fastback-inspired body style. The SUV is inspired by its already popular sibling, the BYD Seal sedan. At the front, it gets a closed-off grille, sleek LED headlights with C-shaped LED DRLs, and aggressive bumper styling.
Apart from these, the Sealion 7 also gets a set of dual-tone alloy wheels with red brake calipers. The Premium variant offers a set of 19-inch alloy wheels, while the Performance AWD variant offers a set of 20-inch wheels. The SUV also gets flush electronic door handles and a coupe-like sloping roofline.
Moving on to the rear, the BYD Sealion 7 offers a similarly sleek design. It gets connected wraparound LED taillights, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a second lip-mounted spoiler as well. The rear bumper also looks slightly aggressive with its double-bubble diffuser. This electric SUV is being offered in four exterior colors, namely Atlantis Grey, Cosmos Black, Aurora White, and Shark Grey.
Interior
As for the interior, BYD has given the Sealion 7 a very futuristic cabin, which boasts a lot of high-end tech. It comes equipped with a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which can be rotated to be used in portrait as well as landscape orientation. It also gets a four-spoke steering wheel with controls for audio and ADAS.
Additionally, the SUV also gets a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a wireless charging pad, and two cup holders. It also gets ventilated front seats, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, a panoramic sunroof, and premium leather upholstery.
BYD Sealion 7: Powertrain
The main highlight of the BYD Sealion 7 is its drivetrain. It comes equipped with a massive 82.56 kWh battery pack. The Premium variant of the Sealion 7 comes with a single electric motor offering a maximum power of 308 bhp and 380 Nm of torque. All the power of this variant is sent to the rear wheels. As for the claimed range, it is 567 km on a single full charge.
BYD also offers this SUV in a more performance-oriented variant, which is the Performance variant. It comes with a dual-motor setup that provides a whopping 523 bhp and 690 Nm of torque. This variant gets an all-wheel-drive system and provides a claimed range of 542 km. It can do a sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.5 seconds. BYD Sealion 7 starts at Rs 48.9 lakh and goes up to Rs 54.90 lakh.
