India is undergoing an EV revolution, and a number of people are adopting electric vehicles. Now, as the number of EVs increases in India, there is also a need for more EV chargers across the country to support this revolution. So, in its attempt to support India’s EV future, EVFY, an electric infrastructure company, recently installed its first EV fast-charging station in Delhi NCR. This event took place on 10th September 2024.
EVFY’s first EV fast-charging station has been installed in Sector 73, Gurgaon, Delhi NCR. This station has been inaugurated to support the growing EV market in the region. The station is located at The One, Sales Gallery on Southern Peripheral Road (SPR). It offers fast-charging capabilities with power outputs of 120 kW, 60 kW, and 7.4 kW.
This will serve a wide variety of EVs, including two, three, and four-wheelers. EVFY’s first charging station also comes with state-of-the-art features like dual-gun capability and RFID-based user interaction. This installation is the first of 100 planned charging stations by EVFY across Delhi NCR.
Expansion Plans
EVFY isn’t stopping at just one station. The company has ambitious plans to expand its charging network to other critical regions, including Dwarka Expressway, the airport area, and New Gurgaon. These future installations will feature ultra-fast chargers of up to 150 kW. There will also be hyper-fast chargers with outputs reaching 350 kW as well.
Commenting on the installation of the first fast-charging station, Shikhar Yadav, Founder of EVFY, stated, “EVFY was formed with a vision to accelerate EV adoption in India by creating an integrated ecosystem with innovative solutions and seamless charging experiences. Our aim is to drive a sustainable future by transforming how EVs are charged and utilized, and to lead the transition to electric mobility with insightful vehicle listings and a robust charging network.”
Hritik Sharma, Co-Founder, EVFY, added, “Our team at EVFY is dedicated to building an ecosystem that simplifies EV ownership and charging. We are focused on supporting every step of the EV journey, from vehicle selection to accessible charging, driving the widespread adoption of electric mobility in India.”
Need for a Strong Charging Network
The initiative from EVFY is truly commendable. This is because India’s charging infrastructure still has a long way to go to fully support the growing EV market. At present, range anxiety—the fear that an electric vehicle won’t have enough battery charge to reach a destination—is a huge barrier. This fear deters a number of potential EV buyers.
In order to overcome this issue, the country needs a vast and reliable network of charging stations. Over the years, India’s public charging infrastructure has seen rapid growth. It has expanded from 1,800 stations in 2022 to over 16,000 in 2024.
Despite this nine-fold increase, experts predict that India will require 1.32 million charging stations by 2030. These stations will be required to support the 50 million EVs expected to be on the road by that time. To achieve this goal, the country will need to install over 400,000 chargers annually.
What is the Government Doing?
The Indian government has been proactive in pushing EV infrastructure through the FAME-II scheme. For this, it has sanctioned thousands of new charging stations. However, the growth rate must accelerate to match the country’s ambitious EV targets. Experts have stated that both the public and private sectors must work together to address the existing gaps in the charging ecosystem.
