Every year, we come across reports about heavy rains in different parts of the country leading to floods and waterlogging. Similar reports are now coming from Gujarat, where heavy rainfall has resulted in at least 35 fatalities and several accidents since Monday. The rains have caused serious inconvenience to the residents, with many vehicles and properties damaged. We recently saw a set of images on social media where a man from Gujarat lost his Audi, Ford EcoSport, and Maruti Ciaz car to flooding.
After seeing his cars filled with water, the owner posted the images with a caption saying he has nothing to live for anymore. This is a very sad sight because the cars seen in the images are not cheap by any means. The water has entered the cabins of these cars, and most modern-day cars and SUVs have several electrical components inside.
These parts, including the engine, get damaged if water gets in. While these cars can be repaired, they are unlikely to be as good as they were before. The water has remained inside the cabin for more than a couple of days, and there was no way the owner could have moved the car to a safe spot as the conditions remained the same almost everywhere.
It appears that the cars were parked outside the owner’s residence, and due to a poor drainage system, the whole area became waterlogged. We recently saw a similar case from Gurugram, Haryana, where the owner criticized the authorities, calling them irresponsible for not taking appropriate measures to ensure the safety of residents’ properties.
There’s nothing left to live for anymore…

In Gurugram, the man lost his Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW M340i, and a Hyundai i20 N Line to the floods. The video also showed how heavy rains have disrupted the lives of people in his area. The cars were later towed to the service station after the water level went down on a flatbed.
We truly understand the pain the owner of the Audi, EcoSport, and Ciaz is currently experiencing. It would have taken him years to save and buy these cars, only for all of them to be destroyed in no time. While he can repair them, it will cost him a lot. If these were his only cars, he would also have to spend additional money to travel while his cars are being fixed. Videos of basement parking spaces of apartments getting flooded have also started coming up online.
This is not the first time Gujarat has experienced heavy rains. The authorities should have prepared the drainage systems to reduce the chances of waterlogging.
In Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Rajkot, and Porbandar, areas received between 50 mm and 200 mm of rain within 12 hours. The Bhanvad region in Devbhumi Dwarka recorded the highest rainfall at 185 mm.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued Red and Yellow alerts for all districts in the Saurashtra and Kutch regions. Twenty-four rivers and 104 reservoirs and dams in the state are currently flowing well above danger levels. It will take months to get things back on track after the water level on the streets goes down.
