Honda is gearing up to launch the Elevate Black Edition and the Elevate Signature Black Edition SUVs in the Indian market on January 7. These special edition variants of the SUV are designed to offer a stylish and premium appeal, with an all-black theme inside out. The Black edition was recently spied on test in India.
Elevate Black Edition: Quick Look At It
The Elevate Black Edition gets a striking Crystal Black Pearl exterior finish. It features gloss black alloy wheels, a chrome upper grille, silver roof rails, and silver detailing on the lower sections of the doors. Inside, the cabin boasts an all-black theme with leatherette seats, adding to its premium quotient.
The Elevate Signature Black Edition, on the other hand, takes the blacked-out look further. It includes a black-painted upper grille, black roof rails, and black finishes on the faux skid plates and door sections. This variant also features a unique logo on the front fender and seven-colour ambient lighting inside the cabin, further enhancing its exclusivity.
Both editions are based on the top-spec Elevate ZX trim, so they come loaded with features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7.0-inch TFT display in the instrument cluster, a single-pane sunroof, auto headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and Honda’s camera-based ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite.
No Changes Under the Hood
The Elevate Black Editions will continue to use the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated iVTEC petrol engine that powers the standard SUV. It produces 121hp and is paired with either with a manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. While there are no mechanical updates, the all-black theme adds a touch of sophistication and exclusivity to the Black Edition variants.
The Elevate’s engine is a time-proven unit. People love it for its torquey nature, refinement, smoothness and performance. The SUV also gets a comfortable suspension setup that offers great ride quality.
Pricing and Competition
The standard Honda Elevate is priced between ₹11.69 lakh and ₹16.43 lakh (ex-showroom). The Black Edition, being based on the fully loaded ZX variant, is expected to cost approximately ₹75,000 more. This puts the starting price somewhere around ₹17.20 lakh (ex-showroom).
In terms of competition, the Elevate Black Edition would go up against similar offerings from other brands. Hyundai has the Creta Knight Edition, MG offers the Astor Blackstorm, and Maruti Suzuki has the Grand Vitara Black Edition. Honda hopes that the Black Edition will boost sales of the Elevate, which have been slower than expected since its launch.
The Elevate Apex Edition to Continue
Honda’s previously launched Elevate Apex Edition, which has been receiving decent traction according to dealers, will continue to be sold alongside the new Black Edition. With this expanded lineup, Honda aims to capture more attention in the competitive mid-size SUV segment dominated by the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
Why the Black Edition Matters?
Honda has brought forward the launch of the Black Edition from its earlier planned date of March 2024. This move comes as part of Honda’s strategy to boost sales during the early months of the new year. By introducing a sleek, all-black variant, the manufacturer hopes to attract younger and more style-conscious buyers.
The Honda Elevate Black Edition promises to be an exciting addition to the mid-size SUV market, offering a bold new look while retaining all the features and performance of the standard Elevate.
