The Elevate is Honda’s C-SUV, which is quite popular among buyers. The manufacturer is now set to launch a Black Edition to the SUV. Scheduled to go on sale this month, the Elevate Black Edition will build on the model’s success. The SUV is an important product for Honda in India. It falls into the over-populated and highly competitive compact SUV segment. Recently, spy shots of the Black Edition Elevate surfaced online giving more details about its design.

Honda Elevate Black Edition: What To Expect?

Spy shots reveal a stunning new look to the Elevate. The SUV is finished in a sleek Crystal Black Pearl shade body colour that gives it a stealthy and sophisticated look. Even the alloy wheels are finished in Black. The Black body cladding gels well with the rest of the bodywork. These claddings, however, are not painted and strike a contrast to the gloss Black body colour.

The headlamps and tail lamps too seem to have been smoked, to give the design a ‘darker’ appeal. There will be multiple Black Edition badges to add to its exclusivity. It remains to be seen if the tinted privacy glass for the rear windows and rear windshield seen in the spy pictures, would make it to the production model as well. The sunroof also seems to be tinted.

The standard Honda Elevate comes in seven monotones and three dual-tone colour options. The monotone choices are Lunar Silver metallic, Phoenix Orange Pearl, Obsidian Blue Pearl, Radiant Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Golden Brown Metallic and Meteoroid Grey Metallic.

Expected Interiors

On the inside, the Black edition is known to feature an all-Black colourway. The standard SUV gets a dual-tone black and brown interior instead. The darker, all-Black scheme will give the cabin a sportier, more likeable appeal and up the premiumness inside. India seems to love all-Black cabins, despite the fact that they could get extra hot in our climate.

Powertrains Could Remain Unchanged!

The Black edition could retain the same 1.5L i-VTEC petrol engine as the standard Elevate. It will continue to produce 119 bhp and 145 Nm. The 6-speed manual and CVT transmissions will continue to be available. This engine is known for its refinement and performance. The Black edition would thus remain a cosmetic upgrade over the standard car.

Could Be Top-Spec Only!

Honda Cars India sells the Elevate in the following trims- SV, V, VX and ZX. SV is the base variant and ZX is the top-spec. It remains to be seen if Honda would choose the Black edition to be a top-spec only model or will offer it in mid-spec as well. In terms of cost, it will be slightly more expensive than the standard car. We have seen most manufacturers play a similar game with their Dark/ Black editions.

Aims To Stay Competitive

Honda aims to have a firmer foot in the segment and stay competitive, with the Black edition. Many other players in the segment have (had) similar Dark-themed special edition models which rose to acceptance in the country. The Creta for example, has the Knight edition. MG Astor has the Black Storm edition on sale.

The key rivals to the Honda Elevate are the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor, Citroen Aircross, Hyryder, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Kia Seltos.
