Honda Cars India has launched the Elevate Black and Signature Black editions in India. These are essentially cosmetic upgrades over the standard car, and lack any mechanical or equipment changes. The vehicle is targeted at the Indian crowd who are primarily interested in dark and Black coloured cars. A recent video by The Car Show channel shows the Black edition Elevate ZX CVT in detail, explaining the changes…
The Elevate is priced from 11.99 lakh and goes up to 16.71 lakh, ex-showroom. As the host states in the video, the Black edition gets an all-Black treatment both inside and on the outside. The SUV comes in four variants- SV, V, VX and ZX. The carmaker has introduced two different versions- Black Edition and Signature Black Edition. Both these are finished in Crystal Black Pearl exterior paint.
Honda Elevate never had a Black in its colour palette. These special editions are thus the only ways you can own this SUV in Black.
The Black edition gets multiple contrasting Silver accents. You can see these on the lower sides of the doors, on the grille and on the roof rails. These are also present on the front and rear bumpers. The wheels are Black. The vehicle also comes with LED headlamps and tail lamps.
The interior colourway has also made a transition to an all-Black scheme. The upholstery, dashboard, steering, door pads and consoles are finished in Black. The wooden and other trims on the regular SUV’s interior have been replaced with Silver finishes.
The Signature Black Edition further enhances the ‘dark appeal’ by replacing the Silver accents with gloss Black trims. Furthermore, it also comes with a 7-colour ambient lighting, that intends to elevate the mood inside. The feature list remains unchanged.
The top-spec Elevate Black and Signature Black editions come with features like six airbags, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, leatherette seats, a single-pane sunroof, automatic headlights and wipers, a semi-analog instrument cluster, a 7.0-inch TFT display and camera-based ADAS technology.
Honda doesn’t provide a 360 camera on the Elevate. It, however, comes with a single camera unit mounted on the left wing mirror. Honda calls this the ‘Lane watch camera’. While it might not be as effective or efficient as a 360-degree camera, it can make living with the SUV easy to some extent.
There are no mechanical changes on the Black edition and Signature Black editions of the Elevate. It continues to be powered by the familiar 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol (iVTEC) engine that produces 119 bhp and 145 Nm. Two gearboxes are on offer- 6 speed manual and a CVT automatic. The automatic variant comes at a premium of 20,000.
Ride quality and engine refinement are two things the Elevate is widely appreciated for. The cabin offers ample room, even though the Black colour theme could make it feel otherwise. The Apex edition on the other hand, offers a cabin that wears White. This colourway makes the interior look and feel much roomier than it actually is. Plus, you have the sunroof to add to the sense of spaciousness.
In the Indian market, the Black edition and Signature Black edition of Honda Elevate compete with the likes of MG Astor Blackstorm, Hyundai Creta Knight edition and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara black edition. The Astor Blackstorm is priced at Rs 16.73 lakh, ex-showroom. The Creta Knight edition has an ex-showroom price of 14.51 Lakh and the Grand Vitara Black edition has a much lower starting price than all of these.
