The Creta Electric will be Hyundai India’s first mass market EV (electric vehicle) and the South Korean automaker is prepping up for launch with a slew of teasers that reveal key details of the SUV.
Pictures of the Hyundai Creta Electric’s interiors are now out, and from the looks of it, the electric variant of the SUV will look markedly different from its internal combustion engine-d (ICE) siblings.
The steering wheel is a new item, and so are the center console and colour schemes. There’s no gear shifter on the Creta Electric. What you instead get is a drive selector that has moved to behind the steering wheel – a-la-Mercedes Benz EV.
Hyundai’s been able to package the drive selector to behind the steering wheel thanks to shift-by-wire technology that makes its mass market debut on Hyundai cars through the Creta Electric.
The Creta Electric scores big on safety
All variants of the electric SUV get the following safety features as standard.
- Six airbags
All-wheel disc brakes
Electronic parking brakes (EPB) with auto hold
Hill -Start Assist Control (HAC) and Hill Descent Control (HDC)
Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Vehicle Stability Management (VSM)
Child Seat Anchor (ISOFIX)
Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
Level 2 ADAS will also be on offer for specific trims. Level 2 ADAS brings in features such as Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning and Blind Spot Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go.
While these are similar to what the ICE Creta offers, the electric version goes one up by linking ADAS with the regenerative braking system. Through Level 2 ADAS, the Creta Electric’s regenerative braking system automatically senses the distance from the vehicle ahead and accordingly adjusts the regenerative braking level.
Another interesting feature on the Creta Electric is In-Car Payment through which customers can pay for electric charger use directly from the car’s infotainment system. This feature is meant to make payments for electric charger use seamless.
Two electric powertrains to be offered
The Creta Electric will get two electric powertrain options. The lower trims will feature a 135 Bhp electric motor juiced by a 42 kWh battery pack while the higher trims will get a 171 Bhp electric motor running off a 51.4 kWh battery pack.
The lower powered version will go 390 Kms on a full charge, says Hyundai while range for the long range version stands at a claimed 473 Kms. Thee long range version will also be quite quick with a 7.9 second 0-100 Kph sprint, making the Creta Electric the fastest Creta ever built.
V2L, inside-out!
The Creta Electric will offer Vehicle 2 Load (V2L) – a feature that can be used to charge electrical appliances. Unlike most other electric cars in the market, the Creta Electric offers V2L both inside and outside the car. Inside, the car, V2L can be used to charge gadgets such as Laptops and smartphones. Outside the car, V2L can be used to charge say another electric car, or even larger electrical appliances.
Here’s a real world example off of V2L technology being used to fry pooris:

Digital Key
Another feature making its debut on the Hyundai Creta range through the electric variant is the Digital Key. A digital key turns your smartphone/smartwatch into the actual car key, which means that you could leave the physical key at home, and simply rely on your smartphone to function like a physical key. A digital key uses NFC (near field communication) technology – the same stuff that you use for ‘tap to pay’ on your credit/debit cars.
