In the final quarter of (financial year) FY 2024–25 (January to March 2025), Creta continued its winning streak by selling 52,898 units, making it the highest-selling SUV for the quarter as well. Hyundai closed the financial year with a record-breaking 194,871 units sold—a strong 20% year-on-year growth and the highest annual sales for Creta since its India debut in 2015. It also ranked as the third highest-selling model in India.

A closer look at the market trends reveals that Indian buyers are now ready to invest in features and technology that their cars pack. 69 per cent of Creta buyers chose sunroof-equipped variants. 38% of customers chose variants that offer connected features, while 24% opted for the top trims. Hyundai recently expanded the Creta range by adding an all-electric guise. Most of the EV customers preferred the top-spec over the lower trim(s).

Speaking on the milestone, Hyundai India's Director and Chief Operating Officer Tarun Garg said, The CRETA continues to set new benchmarks in India’s automotive landscape. Its consistent brand leadership in the SUV segment and now as the highest-selling model in March 2025 is a symbol of the strong emotional bond it shares with Indian customers.

With over 1.2 million CRETAs on Indian roads and a decade of trust behind it, Hyundai CRETA has become a symbol of innovation, aspiration, and reliability.

Charged with Hyundai CRETA, the share of SUVs in HMIL’s total sales increased to 68.5% in FY2024-25 as compared to 63.2% in the previous year. The launch of CRETA Electric has further expanded the brand’s appeal, paving the way for a more sustainable future. We remain committed to delivering vehicles that delight and inspire our customers.”

This year further stands special in marking 10 years of the nameplate in India. Hyundai first launched the Creta here in 2015, and the SUV rose to huge acceptance over the years. So why is this compact SUV so popular among Indian buyers? Let's discuss.

Why Is The Hyundai Creta So Popular?

The Creta was Hyundai's first mainstream SUV offering for India. It is based on the same platform as the Verna, i20 and Venue- Hyundai-Kia K2. Hyundai could effectively capitalize on the growing demand for SUVs with the Creta. It always stood out with its attractive design, practical cabin design, tech-laden interior and a set of capable powertrains. Let's take a deeper dive into these.

Hyundai is known for its top-notch cabin quality, and the Creta doesn’t disappoint. The dashboard (of the latest generation SUV) feels soft to the touch and features gloss black and copper inserts. The colourway makes the cabin look more premium and roomier. The rear seat experience is among the best in the segment. Passengers get ample legroom, knee room, and headroom.

The Creta also comes packed with features. You get the likes of two 10.25-inch displays, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a premium 8-speaker Bose sound system, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof and powered driver's seat with ventilation. This packaging gives it an upper hand in the C-segment SUV space.

To further enhance cabin comfort, the suspension is set on the softer side. The ride quality is great even on the 'N-Line' variant. And for the powertrains, there is something for most consumer preferences.

There is the 1.5 naturally aspirated petrol engine for those seeking an 'everyday petrol SUV', 1.5 turbocharged diesel for those seeking a frugal diesel powertrain and 1.5L turbocharged petrol for those seeking spirited driving and speed. The N Line offers sportier looks, mechanical tweaks, and a sportier exhaust sound for an engaging drive.

Now, with the Creta Electric on sale, the powertrain range has been made wider. The EV comes with two battery pack choices- 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh. The internal combustion engines can be had with both manual and automatic transmissions.

Finally, it delivers good value for its price. The petrol/diesel SUV is priced between ₹11 lakh and ₹20.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). While that might seem like a wide range, the number of features and options across variants makes sure that there’s a Creta for every budget and requirement. The EV too has a decent price (not aggressive though) and offers ample value as well.
