Many of you might have already come across news of Hyundai offering massive discounts on the IONIQ 5 EV in India. Atleast some of you might have wondered why the Korean carmaker is offering cuts and benefits worth four lakh rupees on the electric crossover, despite it being a well-rounded product. In this article, intend to explain just the same!

The Context: 4 Lakh Discount On IONIQ 5

Hyundai has announced massive discounts and benefits on most of its models, this month. Vehicles like the Grand i10 NIOS, Aura, Exter, i20, Venue, Verna, Creta, Alcazar, Tucson and Ioniq 5 get cash discounts, exchange/scrappage bonuses and corporate offers. Of these, the IONIQ 5 gets the heftiest cuts. Up to Rs 4 lakh can be saved if you're buying one of these in May 2025. The revised pricing of the IONIQ 5 stands at Rs 46.05 lakh, and the same pumps more value into the electric vehicle.

Why Is Hyundai Offering Massive Discounts On The IONIQ 5?

Well, the reason is simple- the facelift! Hyundai had introduced the facelifted IONIQ 5 in many global markets last year, with significant improvements in battery size and real-world range. Now, it looks like Hyundai is getting ready to launch the updated IONIQ 5 in India (as confirmed by recent test mule sightings), and the discounts are likely aimed at clearing the stock. The carmaker hasn't, however, revealed the exact launch timeline of the facelift.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 Facelift: What To Expect?

Since it is already on sale in many international markets, several key details of the facelifted IONIQ 5 are known to most people. Let's take a deep dive into the global spec.

The facelift brings subtle yet noticeable changes to the Ioniq 5’s exterior design. At the front, a wider air intake and a bold new V-shaped garnish can be seen. The rear bumper has also been redesigned with more sculpted lines, and the parking sensors appear to have been repositioned. New alloy wheels with improved aerodynamic design are also to be expected.

Hyundai has extended the rear spoiler by 50 mm, further improving airflow and efficiency. The facelift measures 4,655 mm in length, which is 20 mm longer than the car it replaces. The width (1,890 mm), height (1,605 mm), and wheelbase (3,000 mm) remain unchanged.

Inside the cabin, Hyundai has worked to make the Ioniq 5 more user-friendly. One of the key changes is the reintroduction of physical buttons for essential functions like parking assist, ventilated seats, and the heated steering wheel (which comes on the global spec). The wireless charging pad has also been repositioned for improved accessibility.

The facelift also gets Hyundai’s upgraded Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) infotainment system. This includes improved graphics, over-the-air updates, and now supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A new three-spoke steering wheel adds to the cabin's modern appeal.

Hyundai has fine-tuned the Ioniq 5’s suspension and chassis to improve the ride quality. Updates to the body structure, such as a stiffer cowl crossbar, help reduce steering vibrations. Reinforcements around the rear wheels and underbody now bring about better stability and agility, while improvements in body stiffness help lower cabin noise. The rear motor also gets added sound insulation for a quieter drive.

On the safety front, the new Ioniq 5 now includes eight airbags and an improved chassis. Structural reinforcements in the B-pillars, body shell, and doors provide added protection, especially during side impacts.

The most important update would be the introduction of a larger 84 kWh battery pack. In international markets, the RWD version equipped with this battery delivers a WLTP-rated range of up to 570 km. It remains unclear whether this higher-capacity battery will be introduced in the Indian version. Currently, the Ioniq 5 sold in India features a 72.6 kWh battery and offers 217 PS of power with 350 Nm of torque in its RWD configuration.

Also unclear as we speak, is whether Hyundai would introduce all the changes mentioned above in the Indian model. Unlike the Kia counterpart (the EV6), the IONIQ5 isn't a full import. Hyundai India adopted the CKD route, which was of great help in pricing it right. We will have to wait till launch for more details of the facelift to surface...
