The next big launch from JSW MG Motor India will be the Cyberster sportscar, scheduled for January 2025. The carmaker has recently been teasing us with images of the electric sportscar, that would be sold through the premium MG Select retailer network when launched. The India-spec Cyberster is expected to debut at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Expo, ahead of which the company has released its first official images.

The images the manufacturer shared show the India-spec has no major design deviation from the global car. The Cyberster takes inspiration from the original MG B Roadster from the 60s. It gets electrically operated scissor doors which come with radar sensors and anti-pinch technology so that you don’t end up hitting them against things or crushing things with them!
This electric car has a two-seater design and gets a soft-top. The India-spec is expected to come with 19 to 20-inch wheels- we’ll get a clear idea on this closer to the launch. Other key design features include a split diffuser, side skirts, bold-looking rear end with a connected LED strip and arrow-shaped tail lights ( slightly overdone?). Yes, the vehicle gets a complete LED lighting setup.
Images shared by MG show both the front and rear three quarters. The vehicle shown in these gets a Black soft top. It remains to be seen if MG would offer colour choices for the fabric top for example, a tan roof could go well with certain body colours. These pictures, however, do not show any portion of the Cyberster’s cabin or features inside.
MG Cyberster Powertrain
The Cyberster has been designed and built to impress with its performance. The India-spec will come with a 77kWh battery pack and a two-motor setup. These, together (yes there will be AWD!), will be able to deliver 510 hp and 725Nm. 0-100kph, MG says, will be done in just 3.2 seconds. The car will deliver a CLTC range of 580 kilometers per charge.
The suspension setup will have double wishbones at the front and a five-link setup at the rear. The EV is thus expected to deliver a smooth and stable ride with balanced dynamics. The weight distribution here would be 50:50- a fact that would further improve its road manners and fun on offer.
MG Select To Offer A Premium Sales Experience
The MG Select will be a new retail network for electric and hybrid cars (or New Energy Vehicles- NEV- as MG calls them). This exclusive channel will have its focus on the retail of premium vehicles and offer a high-end shopping experience.
To start, MG Select will introduce four new models, including the Cyberster and the Mifa 9 MPV. These cars will be sold through dedicated showrooms complete with dedicated workshops and trained personnel. MG plans to open 12 ‘Select’ outlets in major Indian cities during the first phase. Over time, these will expand to more cities.
The Perfect First Move?
After the Cyberster, MG plans to launch the Mifa 9 MPV. This premium electric vehicle will also be showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. JSW MG Motor India is clearly making big moves to enter the luxury EV market. The Cyberster could be the perfect first move. If you consider the Indian market, the luxury and performance EV space here is slowly opening up, with the likes of BYD Seal taking the lead.
