Putting an end to long-standing rumours and anticipations, Kia India has revealed the Carens Clavis premium 'Recreational Vehicle (RV)'- the manufacturer's speak for MPV. Kia says that the Clavis stands at the interjunction of MPV and SUV with its design and character. Let's explore the Clavis in images. We'll try to explain what is special about it and how it differs from the regular Carens.

The Clavis comes with a handful of design changes which make it stand apart from the regular Carens. The front fascia has been reworked. The LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps) now resemble those on the EV6 with their design. The front bumper and grille design are also new- with the latter getting the latest iteration of 'Digital Tiger Face'.

The LED headlamps now feature a triangular design and look better than those on the Carens. The vehicle follows the manufacturer's 'Opposites United' design philosophy. The vehicle comes with Silver bash plates for added visual appeal.

Another major change is the alloy wheels. The top-spec Carens Clavis gets new 17-inch Crystal cut units. Lower variants come with 15 and 16 inch units. The regular Carens comes with smaller wheels- 16 inch units on higher variants and 15 inchers on the lower ones. The 15-inch wheels get 195/65 R15 rubber while the larger wheels get 205/65 R16 tyres.

At the rear, you’ll notice a familiar layout, but with a thicker central LED light bar to give it a more distinctive look. Kia will offer the Clavis in eight exterior colours- Imperial Blue, Glacier White Pearl, Aurora Black Pearl, Pewter Olive, and four more...

Step inside the Carens Clavis, and you’ll find a cabin that looks familiar but feels more refined. The seating layout remains available in both 6-seat and 7-seat configurations, just like the standard Carens. However, Kia has used a brighter cabin colourway and better-finished seat upholstery and door trims. The feel inside, has thus been elevated.

The Clavis gets a new 22.62-inch dual-screen setup, borrowed from the Seltos. It consists of a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, both neatly integrated into a single curved display. The digital driver's display now features a more modern and readable design and graphics.

The dashboard also gets redesigned AC vents and updated automatic climate control knobs. Kia has given physical controls for both the critical infotainment and climate control functions. These use the same set of buttons and rotary selectors. You can switch between these functions with the press of a button. We have seen similar setups on the Hyundai Verna as well.

Another major change inside is the new steering wheel design. The Clavis features what looks like a chunky two-spoke steering wheel, which is almost identical to the one found in the Syros.

The top-spec HTX+ variant comes packed with ventilated front seats, a 4-way powered driver’s seat, and the latest connected car technology with remote functions. A panoramic sunroof now stretches across the roof, enhancing the premium feel of the cabin.

Kia has also included a 360-degree camera system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and an 8-speaker Bose sound system for better entertainment. But the standout inclusion is the Level 2 ADAS suite, which adds features like adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, front collision warning, and other semi-autonomous driving aids.

The Carens Clavis shares most of its powertrain options with the regular Carens, but it also brings in a new manual transmission option for the 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. This gives buyers more flexibility, especially those who prefer manual gearboxes with a fun-to-drive engine.

Alongside this, the Clavis retains the familiar 115hp 1.5-litre petrol with 6-speed manual, the 160hp turbo-petrol with 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT, and the 116hp 1.5-litre diesel with 6-speed manual and automatic setups.

We expect Kia India to price the Clavis above the regular Carens. The Carens is now priced in the range of Rs 10.60 lakh - Rs 19.70 lakh (ex-showroom). The manufacturer is yet to announce the Clavis' prices, even though the pre-bookings will begin on May 9, 2025.
