Kia revealed its newest product for India- the Carens Clavis- a premium Recreational Vehicle (which is what the Korean manufacturer calls its MPVs) that would sell alongside the outgoing Carens, an a more feature-packed, pricier offering. The Carens Clavis is based on the same platform as the existing Carens but aims to offer a more upscale experience. The prices thus stand slightly above those of the regular Carens. There will be a total of 19 variants, spread across three powertrain choices. Seven trims will be available- HTE, HTE(O), HTK, HTK+, HTK+(O), HTX and HTX+.

The vehicle will also feature both six and seven seater layouts. The leaked data reveals that the starting price of the Carens Clavis will be Rs 11.59 lakh. The upper price ceiling would be Rs 20.39 lakh for the X Line (turbo-petrol+ DCT). Let's now take a deep dive into the variant-wise prices.

Tech Line Petrol 1.5 Variants And Prices

These variants feature the 1.5 litre, naturally aspirated, four-cylinder petrol engine that comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Five variants are available. The prices of Tech Line petrol variants will start at Rs 11.59 lakh, ex-showroom. The 7-seater Prestige (O) variant will have an ex-showroom price of Rs 12.89 lakh. Below are all the prices:

These variants are powered by a 1.5L, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 160 PS and 253 Nm of torque. Two transmission choices are offered- a 6-speed IMT and a 7-speed DCT automatic. The turbocharged petrol variants will start at Rs 13.19 lakh and go up to Rs 20.39 lakh, ex-showroom, for the range-topping X-Line variants. Below are the variant and pricing details:

Much like the Carens, the Clavis too is offered with the 1.5L, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that produces 116 PS and 250 Nm. This engine can be had with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The prices of diesel-powered Clavis will begin at Rs 13.32 lakh and go up to Rs 18.99 lakh, ex-showroom.

A Closer Look At The Carens Clavis

The Clavis has a distinctive styling. It continues to be based on Kia's 'Opposites United' design philosophy. It gets a new design for the headlamps, front grille and bumpers, sharper body lines, larger 17-inch alloy wheels, and new, full-width connected LED tail lamps.

The cabin gets tasteful reworks, new colourways and more features. The range-topping Clavis comes with panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a massive 26.6-inch panoramic display panel, 4-way powered driver's seat, 8-speaker premium audio system by BOSE, dual-zone climate control, multilingual VR commands, 360-degree camera and level 2 ADAS.

The safety suite consists of six airbags, ESC and parking sensors at both ends among others. In the Indian market, the Clavis will face competition from the Maruti Ertiga, Maruti XL6, Kia Carens and some variants of the Innova, Hycross and Maruti Invicto.
