Kia Clavis Is The Name Of The Facelifted Carens - Official Launch Of New MPV On May 8th [Video]

The South Korean automotive giant Kia has finally released the first teaser of its upcoming MPV. It was reported that this MPV will be called Carens with a suffix and sold alongside the current model. However, the company, along with the teaser, has revealed that this new model will be called the Clavis. It will be based on the current Carens; however, it will get an updated exterior design along with a ton of new features such as ADAS Level 2.
This teaser, showing the upcoming Clavis MPV, has been shared on YouTube by Kia India on their page. In this short video, we can note that the brand-new Kia Clavis is traveling through a dense green forest during nighttime. We can observe that it boasts the same Carens-like silhouette. However, there are a few updates, and one of the main ones, which we can note from this top view, is the panoramic sunroof.
The video then shows this MPV continuing to make turns in the middle of the jungle. However, at one point, the vehicle stops in the middle of the road as it detects an obstruction. This highlights the collision avoidance system, which will be part of the ADAS Level 2 suite offered in this new MPV. Soon after this, we can note that a Viking was standing in the way of the Clavis and was staring at it.
This teaser then shows the aggressive front-end design of the Clavis. It gets L-shaped LED DRLs, which extend on the sides, and there are also three-pod LED headlights. Now, eagle-eyed viewers will be able to note that the front-end design of the Clavis looks like it has taken inspiration from the helmet which the Viking was wearing that stopped this MPV.
As per Kia, the all-new Clavis MPV will be officially launched on May 8th. This particular MPV, as stated, will not be replacing the current-generation Carens. Rather, it will be sitting next to it in the Kia lineup. Most likely, the company will be keeping a significant gap in the pricing of these two models. The Clavis is expected to cater to the more premium buyers. Meanwhile, the Carens will be aimed at luring in budget and fleet buyers.
Apart from the new front end, which looks a lot more modern, aggressive, and similar to the current-generation Sonet, Seltos, and the Carnival, the vehicle will also be getting other unique elements as well. On the side profile, the Clavis will be getting a set of new alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the rear design will also be different from the Carens. It is expected to get a connected LED taillight and an aggressive rear bumper.
On the inside, the new Clavis is expected to get a twin-connected 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument gauge. Apart from this, it could get a dual-zone climate control system (not confirmed), updated dashboard layout, leather upholstery, ventilated and powered front seats, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ADAS Level 2, 360-degree camera, and multiple airbags.
As for the powertrain options, Kia is expected to offer the Clavis with the same engines as the current Carens. These include a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine. The turbo-petrol engine will be available with manual and DCT gearbox options, while the diesel engine will be offered with both manual and automatic transmission options.
