The South Korean automotive giant, Kia India, is gearing up for the launch of its newest sub-compact SUV, the Syros, in India. This new SUV will slot in between the already popular Kia Seltos and Sonet SUVs. Now, if you are one of those people who want to know what exactly the Syros will be offering over its smaller sibling, the Sonet, then you have come to the right spot. Here are the features that put the Syros ahead of the Kia Sonet.
Panoramic Sunroof
Kia India has shared a number of teasers that have revealed that the upcoming Syros will be offered with a panoramic sunroof. Currently, in the affordable segment of Kia cars, only the Seltos offers this premium and very popular feature. The Sonet, on the other hand, comes only with a single-pane electric sunroof.
Advanced ADAS
Kia is also prioritizing safety by offering active safety features—Advanced ADAS Level 2. The suite of Syros’ ADAS will include features like lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, auto emergency braking, and many others. These features will be accompanied by multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, traction control, and other features.
Currently, the Sonet also offers ADAS in the top-spec variants. However, it has to be noted that it only gets Level 1 ADAS, which offers warnings and some assistance. Both SUVs also offer features like a 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, and others.
Reclining Rear Seats
One of the biggest drawbacks of the Kia Sonet is its rear space. It is considered cramped by many, and the Syros will resolve this issue. The new Syros will boast much better legroom and rear seat comfort. As per the reports, the company will be offering the Syros with reclining rear seats, which will add to the comfort of its rear passengers. Its tall-boy design will also ensure bigger headroom.
Terrain Modes
The new Kia Syros will also be getting multiple terrain modes, which were previously only seen in the more expensive offerings. This new SUV will feature different driving modes for sand, mud, and snow. Whether it will come with an AWD system or not has not been revealed.
Bigger Dimensions
Kia is launching the Syros to compete in the sub-compact SUV segment. However, it has made sure that its unique tall-boy design and its width ensure that it feels much bigger than it is. Currently, most sub-compact SUV buyers complain that the cabins of these sub-4m SUVs feel very small. Hence, Kia is launching this SUV to solve this issue.
Kia Syros: Powertrain Details
Kia will be offering the Syros with two engine options. These include a 1.0-litre turbo engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The former will make 120 PS of power and 172 Nm of torque. It will be offered with a 6-speed IMT gearbox and a 7-speed DCT. Meanwhile, the diesel motor will make 116 PS and 250 Nm of torque. It will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and get an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic.
Should You Wait for the Kia Syros or Buy the Sonet?
Kia India will officially take the covers off the Syros on December 19th. So, if you are in the market for a sub-compact SUV and are contemplating buying a Sonet, we suggest you wait for a bit and check out the new Syros. Its bigger dimensions and feature additions could be useful for you.
