Kia is readying to launch the new Syros in India this week and ahead of the same, has now revealed the fifth teaser. This, by far, is the most detailed one, and gives quick, crisp looks at various design aspects of the upcoming SUV. In a way, it has revealed the design almost completely. Here is everything to know about the vehicle before it breaks cover on December 19th this year.
The teaser video shows the front design almost completely. The vertically stacked headlamps, LED DRLs, dual open grill sections, and front bumpers can all be seen, for short timespans. The vehicle will come with a Silver skid plate at the front. You can also see a radar module on the front bumper. This confirms the presence of ADAS in the production form. The front windshield might look rather upright.
The side design will have an air of freshness to it. You could feel it to resemble the Hyundai Casper to some extent on the side profile. However, the Casper is smaller than the Syros. The video shows the 17-inch alloy wheels that are to be expected. There will also be flush-type door handles.
Other notable elements are tall roof rails, chunky B pillars and bold Black body cladding. There is even a rear quarter glass for enhanced visibility. An interesting bit about this design is that while the body cladding is squarish, the actual wheel wells are round. These beefy parts impart an air of seriousness to the design at large.
Kia says it’s nothing like anything that’s currently on sale here, and it is hard to disagree. There is no confirmed word on the exact dimensions yet. It is believed to be larger than the Sonet but smaller than the Seltos. Kia intends to bridge the gap between sub-4m and compact SUV segments.
The rear design has a flat-ish appeal to it. As seen in the video, the vehicle would come with vertical LED tail light signatures. The brake lights, however, are set much lower down, near the rear bumper. It remains to be seen if Kia would call this a mini SUV or a mini RUV ( which is their speak for the Carens). The teaser also confirms the presence of a large panoramic sunroof on the vehicle.
The manufacturer will reportedly launch the Syros in 8 different colours. A signature Frost Blue colour will also make its debut. This colour, if you look carefully, is distantly similar to the Curvv EV’s Virtual Sunrise colourway. There will likely be 6 variants to the vehicle- HTK, HTK (O), HTK+, HTX, HTX+, and HTX+ (O).
The cabin is expected to look and feel upmarket and be packed with features. The design here could have been influenced by the Kia EV3 and K4- two global models. The equipment array could consist of dual 10.2-inch screens (one for infotainment and the other for instrumentation), wireless Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay, front and rear ventilated seats, a powered driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, a premium audio system (mostly from BOSE), ambient lighting, and rear AC vents.
The safety suite will consist of the likes of 6 airbags and Level-2 ADAS, much like what we see on the Seltos. The Syros is expected to borrow its engine and transmission choices from the Sonet. In that case, it could use the 1.2 naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0 turbocharged petrol and 1.5 diesel engines. The transmission choices could include a 6-speed manual, 7DCT, and 6AT. The manufacturer has, however, not confirmed any of these details. We will have to wait till launch to get a proper clue of it.
