KIA India is preparing to launch the Syros SUV in India. It will likely sit between the Sonet and Seltos in the India portfolio. Bookings will commence from January 3, 2025 and deliveries are expected to start in February. Upon launch, the Syros will be available in six different trims- HTK, HTK (O), HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and HTX+ (O). Recently, the base variant (HTK) of the sub 4m SUV  was spotted on test, without any camouflage. Here is everything to know about it.

Kia Syros Mid Variant: What To Expect

Based on the manufacturer’s latest design language, the Syros look like nothing else. You could feel the design to have drawn inspiration from the EV9. It isn’t, however, for everyone. Key design highlights include a boxy silhouette, vertical LED headlamps, vertical LED DRLs, flush-type door handles, good-looking 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, squarish side cladding, prominent skid plates on bumpers, and low-set tail lamps. Not everything will be available on the lower variants.

The new spy shot shows what looks like the base variant- HTK. It looks tall and imposing on the open roads. The colour of the spotted vehicle is the ‘Aurora Black Pearl’. We had experienced the top-spec Syros at the reveal event. The base-spec lacks a rear washer and wiper.

Later in the video, the Syros can be seen rolling parallel to a Mahindra Marazzo. Despite being a monocoque, it looks almost as tall as the Mahindra ( which is a ladder-frame product). Comparing numbers, the Syros has a height of 1680 mm while the Marazzo is 1,774 mm tall.

Kia Syros: Overview

In dimensions, the Syros tucks under the 4m mark with its length, is tall and has a proper stance. It comes with a neatly laid-out cabin and plenty of features. The cabin has a modern air to it. It gets what Kia calls a Trinity Screen- essentially a 30″ display real estate comprising three different screens- touchscreen, instrument cluster and HVAC display. Other features are ambient lighting, a unique gear lever design, flush buttons for engine start/stop, an electronic parking brake, and a wireless charging pad. Instead of the BOSE sound system, this SUV comes with a 7-speaker Harman Kardon unit.

In addition to these, all four seats have ventilation functions. The rear row gets a 60:40 split design and the middle passenger misses out on ventilation. Additionally, the rear row offers slide and recline functions. The vehicle also gets a powered driver seat, panoramic sunroof and a new two-spoke steering wheel design. There is ample room inside the vehicle, and most 4-people commutes will not have room for complaints or compromises!

To give the safety quotient a boost, the Syros comes with six airbags, a 360-degree camera, ADAS Level 2, ABS with EBD, ESC, traction control, hill hold control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and front and rear parking sensors.

Interestingly, Kia has given it just the turbocharged petrol and diesel engines- 1.0L TGDi turbocharged petrol and 1.5L diesel. ( Now you know which of these would sell!). This SUV misses out on the naturally aspirated petrol (SmartStream) engine. The turbo-petrol will produce 120 hp and 178 Nm while the diesel will make 114hp and 250 Nm. In addition to the manuals, a 6AT automatic and 7-speed DCT transmissions can be had on the petrol and diesel variants respectively.
