Building on the success of the iconic Thar, Mahindra recently introduced the much-anticipated 5-door Roxx earlier this month. The new Thar 5-door comes with a starting price of Rs 12.99 lakh for the petrol 2WD variant. There is a wide range of variants on offer, across petrol and diesel powertrains. The availability of 4×4 tech also varies between these. However, Mahindra has not yet disclosed the prices for the 4WD variants.
Mahindra has now released a new TVC that details the mid-spec AX3L variant of the Roxx. It shows all the features and tech on the AX3L. The video shows the mid-variant of Thar Roxx in Black. There is, however, a total of 7 colours on offer. In all colourways, the roof gets a Black finish.
Mahindra Thar Roxx AX3L: Key Highlights
As seen in the new TVC, the mid-spec variant of Thar Roxx will have full LED lighting. The headlamps, indicator lamps, and tail lamps will all be LEDs. It, however, misses out on the LED DRLs and LED projector fog lamps. No alloy wheels are offered, and the SUV rides on 18-inch steel rims. The top-spec Thar Roxx comes with 19-inch diamond-cut alloys. These admittedly take some flair off the design. Thus, if you want to opt for alloy wheels, you’ll have to start looking for MX5 and above!
Mahindra Thar Roxx AX3L: Features And Interior
The variant packs a decent array of tech and features, rendering ample livability to its cabin. It gets a 26.03 cm touchscreen infotainment system with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features on the AX3L include push-button start, wireless charging, auto-dimming IRVM, steering-mounted controls, cruise control, Level 2 ADAS with over 10 features, ADRENOX with 83 connected features, four power windows with automatic operation for the driver-side window, electric adjustments for ORVMs, semi-digital instrument cluster, and rear AC vents.
The safety suite includes 6 airbags, rear parking sensors, rear disk brake, ESC, traction control, hill hold control, hill descent control and rollover mitigation.
The Roxx AX3L misses out on sunroof options. The top-spec comes with a huge panoramic sunroof (the largest in the segment) while the MX5 and AX5L get single-pane sunroofs. The AX3L though, gets no such thing and comes with a completely closed roof.
Another key difference is in the cabin colourway. While the top-spec and higher trims come with a full White interior, the mid-spec gets a darker colourway. The upholstery and cabin wear shades of Black and Grey, and there is deep Green on the seats as well. This seems to be a more logical choice than White for a vehicle of this class.
Thar Roxx AX3L Specifications
The Thar Roxx AX3L is available with a single powertrain option: Diesel Manual 2WD. A 4WD option is not available with this variant, nor is the 2.0L turbo petrol. The 2.2-litre diesel engine, here, is offered in two states of tune—152 PS / 330 Nm and 175 PS / 370 Nm. While the Roxx offers both 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission options, the AX3L variant is exclusively available with the manual transmission. In terms of pricing, the AX3L variant sits at Rs 16.99 lakh, ex-showroom.
Why the AX3L could soon rise to popularity?
This mid-spec variant could soon rise into stellar acceptance. It is smartly priced and smartly packed in terms of features. It lets the user get a proper taste of the SUV, with ample features and cabin comfort, and without burning holes in their pockets. The ex-showroom price of 16.99 lakh would translate to 20-ish lakh OTR, mostly on par with the prices of many modern-day C-SUVs. However, the Thar Roxx enjoys a loud upper hand in road presence and off-road abilities.
