Mahindra Vision SXT Teased For The First Time: Scorpio Pickup Concept? [Video]
Mahindra is planning a grand product (and concept) reveal this Independence Day. The carmaker has lately been releasing teaser videos of its newest vision cars. Over the past few days, we saw the Vision T and Vision S being teased. The latest teaser is of the 'Vision SXT'. It has pumped up excitement around the ' Freedom_NU' event.
The video shared on Mahindra's official handles show the outlines of a bold, muscular SUV. A boxy sihouette can be seen. The nose seems to be upright, and the bonnet seems to have a clamshell design. These are partially visible in the teaser, towards the second half. You can also spot the flared wheel arches. The bumper seems to have a prominent skid plate integrated into it. Whatever this vision car could translate to, will have a solid stance for sure.
If you look closely, you can also see components which look like exposed hood hinges. These could let it open upward or forward for unrestricted access to the powertrain or 'frunk'. The design at large, seems bold and utilitarian.
What Could This Be?
While Mahindra hasn't revealed anything more about this vision car, we expect it to preview the production form of the Scorpio-N-based pickup truck. Mahindra had previously shown the truck concept in South Africa. Back then it was rumoured that the production (diesel/petrol) version of this vehicle could be called 'Scorpio X' when launched.
This vision seems to be a closer-to-production form. The post shared by Mahindra has the hashtag #ElectricOriginSUVs. We can thus expect this to be the all-electric form of the truck. It would then make sense for the vision car to have the letters S and X in it- SXT likely implies 'Scorpio X Truck). (Like how Vision.T stands for the electric Thar and Vision.S for electric. Scorpio)
Mahindra's future portfolio will have EV versions of many of the existing models and all-new ones. The electric pickup will be an important product, even though this segment is yet to open up in the country.
Vision S and Vision T: What Are They?
Details are scarce around the actual details of Vision S and Vision T. It, however, seems safe to speculate that Vision.T will preview the next-generation Thar- possibly an evolution of the Thar.E concept unveiled previously.
It is expected to have both ICE and EV powertrains in the production form. The Vision T teaser shows rugged design cues, strong body lines, angular edges and flared wheel arches. Mahindra will likely base it on its new-age monocoque platform, which will support both pure internal combustion engine, hybrid and all-electric powertrains.
The Vision. S on the other hand, could hint at the production form of the Scorpio-based EV. The teaser shows the concept to have hood intakes, chunky off-road wheels, and clean body lines. It will likely have a strong focus on performance and off-road prowess. It could have both ICE and EV versions to it.
One More Concept Is Coming
Mahindra follows a specific pattern in its video teasers. All three that we saw yet, start by showing four wide bands featuring four different shades. Each concept had a specific colour theme to it. The Vision T was finished in White while the Vision S had a Yellow theme to it.
The latest entrant- the Vision SXT has an Orange theme to it. The fourth colour is a shade of Grey. This makes us believe that Mahindra will reveal one more concept in the upcoming days, most likely with Grey theme.
