Mahindra has begun dispatching the XEV 9e and BE 6 electric coupe SUVs to dealerships across the country, in the run up to the national launch where the pricing for the entire variant line-ups of both cars will be announced. Here’s a short video that shows the XEV 9e reaching a Mahindra dealership in Chandigarh.
The XEV 9e that has reached this particular dealership will be used for offering customers test drives. The BE 6 has also begun reaching dealerships, and we just reported about that yesterday, where a BE 6 was seen at a charging station in Delhi, next to a Tata Curvv.EV.
Coming back to the XEV 9e, this SUV is the more practical of the two, offers a lot more space, a more comfortable ride, and is also a much larger vehicle overall. It gets more premium interiors as well, which seem very similar to what Mahindra offers on the XUV700.
A highlight on the XEV 9e is the massive, triple screen layout that’s never been seen on an Indian car. The electric SUV is loaded with technology and creature comforts, making it one of the most tech-laden cars ever launched by Mahindra.
The XEV 9e shares its powertrains and battery packs with the BE 6. Lower trims will be powered by a 230 Bhp-380 Nm electric motor running off a 59 kWh battery while higher trims get a much more powerful 280 Bhp-380 Nm state of tune, juiced from a 79 kWh battery pack.
The more powerful version of the XEV 9e offers thrilling performance, and is capable of hitting 100 Kph from standstill in just 6.8 seconds. Top speed stands close to the 200 Kmph mark, making it second only to the BE 6 among Indian electric SUVs. Mahindra has truly hit it out of the park with its Born Electric offerings.
Talking of which, the XEV 9e, like the BE 6, has its battery in the floor. Both SUVs use Blade cells from BYD, and offer unlimited battery warranties for first owners. The base trim of the XEV 9e starts from Rs. 21.9 lakh, making it about Rs. 3 lakh pricier than the entry level BE 6.
The top end trims of the XEV 9e are likely to sit under 26-27 lakh, and Mahindra is expected to keep on-road prices of the top-end trims under Rs. 30 lakh. The automaker is also embarking on a customer outreach program, where it’s handing out the XEV 9e and BE 6 to prospective customers for a couple of hours each to ensure that they get to experience the cutting edge technology, and high performance that both these electric SUVs bring to the table.
It’s a one-of-a-kind effort meant to showcase both electric SUVs in a very personal, and relaxed setting. If this initiative takes off, expect to see the XEV 9e and BE 6 to be sold out for at least a year once the actual bookings commence.
In January 2025, Mahindra is expected to reveal the full price list for both electric SUVs, and this is also when bookings will commence. Deliveries are likely to start from March 2025. Mahindra has massive ambitions for both SUVs. It’s planning to produce about 7,500 units of the Born Electric range of SUVs each month, with the BE 6 expected to bring in about 4,500 sales each month while the XEV 9e will target about 3,000 monthly units.
Together, the BE 6 and XEV 9e could literally double the Indian electric car market. Such is the volumes that Mahindra is aiming for both these SUVs. A lot is riding on them, and Mahindra seems to be making all the right moves.
