Mahindra XEV 9e's ADAS Identifies Cattle On The Road: Made For India! [Video]

Mahindra has delivered double hits with the Electric Origin SUVs- the BE 6 and the XEV 9e. Both come packed with features and are built on Mahindra's new-age INGLO platform. Over the past few months, we have seen plenty of video content around these electric SUVs, on various social media platforms. A recent reel shared on Instagram, however, shows something unique- the XEV 9e's ADAS suite detecting cattle passing by and driving accordingly. This shows how much custom-calibrated the ADAS on this vehicle is, for the Indian road conditions.
The video shows an XEV 9e driving with its ADAS engaged. The digital instrument cluster shows the SUV detecting obstacles around. A herd of cattle is seen walking by. Interestingly, the vehicle detects the same and drives accordingly. Roaming cattle are a common sight on the Indian roads. They can be very unpredictable.
ADAS is becoming increasingly common in India. However, not many of them are tailored for the specific challenges that Indian roads pose. The ADAS tech offered by many manufacturers fail to detect obstacles like animals crossing. Mahindra has always tailored their ADAS suite for situations such as these. Right from when the technology premiered on the XUV 700, Mahindra's ADAS could detect obstacles common in Indian roads like autorikshaws and three-wheelers to pedestrians.
Over the years, the Indian carmaker's ADAS seems to have evolved. The BE6 and XEV 9e feature level 2+ ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). Each of these vehicles come with five radars and a vision camera, which work together in ensuring safety. In real-world scenarios, these electric vehicles prove to be quite efficient with their ADAS suites. The system can detect obstacles like animals, pedestrians, vehicles, barricades and almost everything that the Indian roads could possibly present.
The suite also comes with features like adaptive cruise control (ACC), automatic emergency braking (AEB), and blind spot monitoring (BSM), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), and more. The system can also detect speed sign boards and warn the driver about the same.
Mahindra launched the XEV 9e in November 2024. It offers two battery pack choices- 79 kWh and 59 kWh. The larger unit is claimed to offer a range of 656 km while the 59 kWh unit comes with a range of 542 km. The elelctric motor is capable of generating 282 bhp and 380 Nm of torque, and powers the rear wheels. There are four driving modes offered- Range, Everyday, Race and Default. DC charging the XEV from 20-80 percent will only take 20 minutes. The battery packs have been sourced from BYD.
Talking of the design, the XEV 9e resembles the XUV 700 with many of its cues. It is however, larger than the XUV in dimensions, measuring 4,789 mm in length, 1,907 mm in width and 1,694 mm in height. The wheelbase stands at 2775 mm.
In terms of exterior design, the Mahindra XEV 9E is a very bold-looking SUV with a lot of street presence. It is very long, and its flow of design is very smooth. This unique SUV has been designed with great attention to aerodynamics.
Key design highlights includes a unique edge-to-edge LED DRL and vertically stacked LED headlights, silver skid plate, blacked-out front bumper, a closed-off grille, flush type door handles, 20-inch wheels, thick side claddings and an illuminated Mahindra logo.

The feature list includes a triple screen setup, ambient lighting, automatic climate control, huge panoramic glass roof, Mahindra VisionX, the Augmented Reality HUD, 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos and more.
