The XUV700 is among the best-selling Mahindras of the day. It offers two engine options- 2.2L mHawk diesel and 2.0L mStallion petrol. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are available. Mahindra has now revealed the ARAI-certified fuel efficiencies of the vehicle.
The petrol manual version of XUV700 is now certified to return a fuel efficiency of 13.0 kpl. With the automatic transmission in place, the turbocharged petrol engine returns 12.2 kpl. The diesel, on the other hand, is much more frugal. It returns up to 16.4 kpl in the manual form. Diesel automatic delivers 15.50kmpl- says ARAI.
- XUV 700 Petrol MT : 13.0kmpl
- Petrol AT: 12.20kmpl
- Diesel-MT: 16.40kmpl
- Diesel AT: 15.50kmpl
The ARAI tests were conducted in laboratory-like conditions, maintaining vehicle speeds of 30 kph. Thus, real-world mileage could vary, as our daily driving scenarios seldom fulfil these criteria. Plus, the mileage of a vehicle can also vary with one’s driving style, road conditions, traffic lights and the weather around. Another influencing factor is the vehicle’s air conditioning. The ARAI tests had the AC switched off.
Mahindra XUV700 Specifications And Powertrains
As mentioned above, the Mahindra XUV700 has two engine options: a 2.0L turbocharged petrol and a 2.2L diesel. The diesel engine is available in two states of tune: the lower spec produces 155PS and 360 Nm while the higher spec delivers 185PS and 420- 450Nm, both with manual transmission. The engine with lower power output is specifically reserved for the 5-seater MX variant. The petrol engine produces 200hp and 380 Nm.
The petrol variants are loved for their performance. It delivers commendable performance for the price. The base spec petrol begins at 14.49 lakh, and offers the same 200 hp. The compromise in fuel efficiency is forgivable for many. Even though ARAI says that this iteration returns 13 kpl, the actual figures could be much lower. In our previous road tests with the petrol XUV, the max we managed to achieve was 10kpl. However, if driven with a hard foot, it would drop to 7-9 kpl.
Fuel Efficiencies Of Other Mahindra SUVs
The recently revealed the ARAI mileage of the Thar 3-door, Scorpio-N and the recently launched Thar Roxx. Mahindra usually refrains from mentioning the ARAI mileage of their SUVs at or near launch. These data thus stand special. Interestingly, all these vehicles get the same petrol and diesel engines. The state of tune varies between these models, and so does other vehicle characteristics. These thus return varied fuel efficiency figures as well.
From all the data available, it is the XUV700 that leads in mileage offered. Its diesel manual delivers more than what the same engine offers on models like the Scorpio-N and Thar. Data indicate that the diesel manual iteration of Scorpio-N delivers just 15.42 kmpl under lab conditions. This could be due to its torquier, 4WD-ready nature. Interestingly, the diesel automatic also has the same mileage. The petrol engine returns 12.70 kmpl with the manual gearbox and 12.12 kmpl with the automatic.
The 3-door Mahindra Thar has an ARAI-approved mileage of 15.20 kmpl for the diesel 4×4, and 12.40 kmpl for the petrol. The SUV also offers the choice of a smaller 1.5L diesel engine, the fuel efficiency of which is not yet revealed. Adding more spice to the mileage reveal game, Mahindra recently let out the fuel efficiency of the all-new Thar Roxx. It could be the fastest one to have ARAI numbers out. The 5-door Thar is claimed to deliver 15.2 kpl on the diesel and 2.40 km/l on the petrol- both less than the numbers of Scorpio-N. The disparity could be attributed to the varying nature of the engines on these SUVs.
