The Royal Enfield Bullet is one of the most modified and customizable motorcycles sold in India. Many Bullet owners in India have customized their motorcycles with unique liveries, alloy wheels, and various other components. However, we recently came across a video from Punjab in which a person had transformed his Royal Enfield Bullet into a bicycle, surprising everyone, including the passersby and the police.
The video surfaced on the Facebook page of Punjab Nation TV, showing a person riding a Royal Enfield Bullet being stopped by a policeman during a routine check. The video depicts a policeman halting a person riding a silver-colored Bullet because the person was not wearing a helmet while riding.
Upon stopping, the on-duty policemen were shocked to discover that the motorcycle did not have an engine under its fuel tank. Instead, it had a pedal arrangement similar to a bicycle. The person riding the Bullet was pedaling the bike, not using a throttle. While the entire motorcycle appeared intact, including the headlamp, fuel tank, side body panels, front and rear fenders, tail lamp, and chassis, the engine was conspicuously absent.
Cops did not realise that it is a bicycle
Realizing that the “motorcycle” was actually more like a bicycle without a gasoline-powered engine, the policemen couldn’t penalize the person riding it for not wearing a helmet. The individual revealed himself as a mechanic who had been working on an eco-friendly motorcycle that also helps maintain health.
While the mechanic’s intentions are undoubtedly noble, the modification he made to the Bullet essentially converted a motorcycle into a bicycle, with no alternative powertrain in place of its engine. The added weight of all the body panels, wider tires, steel wheels, and tubular frame of the Bullet only makes riding the bicycle more challenging.
The Bullet seen in the video is the previous-generation Royal Enfield Bullet Electra, which has been discontinued and replaced with the all-new Bullet 350 a few weeks ago. The new-generation Royal Enfield Bullet 350 retains the classic appeal of the Bullet with an old-school design and hand-painted pinstriping work. However, under the skin, it has undergone a significant change, with the new-generation J-Series 349cc engine replacing the old UCE (unit construction engine) with 346cc.

Royal Enfield now sells a range of 350cc motorcycles, all based on the new J-Series engine platform. Motorcycles on the J-platform include the Meteor 350, the Hunter 350, the Classic 350 and now the Goan Classic 350. The new J-Series motor is a lot smoother than the older UCE. It’s more fuel efficient as well, and comes paired with a five speed manual gearbox.
Royal Enfield will launch two new motorcycles early next year – the Classic 650 based on the twin cylinder platform, and the Scram 440, which uses a big bore version of the old Himalayan’s 411cc engine.
