Maruti Suzuki is known to launch its first electric vehicle (EV) in India during the upcoming festive season (September 2025)- the E-Vitara. With months left for its market debut, Maruti Suzuki is actively testing the electric SUV in various parts of the country. A set of recent spy shots show the E-Vitara being tested on public roads, with heavy camouflage. The carmaker had previously showcased the E-Vitara at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025.

The new set of spy shots shows the test mule with a dark-themed camouflage. The alloy wheel design seems to be slightly different from that of the show car.

The e-Vitara will have heavy localisation gone into its production and will be manufactured at the company's Gujarat facility. The manufacturer has plans to commence exports to markets like Japan and Europe as well. When launched, the e-Vitara will become the carmaker's fastest ( and heaviest) car to date.

The e-Vitara has a tough, SUV-like appearance with thick body cladding, upright proportions, and bold LED lighting. The tri-slash LED DRLs and strong rear haunches give the design a sporty edge.

The SUV is 4,275 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, and 1,635 mm tall, putting it in the same size class as the Hyundai Creta EV. With a 2,700 mm wheelbase, it promises good interior space and ample room for accommodating the massive battery pack.

The e-Vitara will come with two battery packs- 49 kWh battery and a much larger 61 kWh unit. The smaller battery will come mated to an electric motor that produces 144 hp and 189 Nm. This version will have a Front Wheel Drive (FWD) layout.

The larger battery would power a more powerful electric motor- with an output of 174 hp and 300 Nm of torque. While global markets get a dual motor version of the SUV, the India-spec will remain FWD-only. It will thus miss out on the Trail Mode that the AWD (All Wheel Drive) version comes with.

The 61 kWh variant is expected to deliver over 500 km of range on global test cycles. ARAI numbers stand close as well. The SUV will weigh between 1,702 and 1,899 kilos, and would come with 180 mm ground clearance, which makes it suitable for Indian roads.

Inside, the e Vitara will have a dual-screen setup, a floating center console, and a rotary gear selector. There will also be a wireless phone charger, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and an electronic parking brake.

Rear seats offer adjustable headrests, a split-fold design, and enough room for tall passengers thanks to its long wheelbase and high roofline.

The e Vitara is based on Suzuki’s all-new Heartect-e platform, developed along with Toyota. Codenamed 40PL, this skateboard-style platform uses Suzuki’s eAxle tech, combining motor and inverter for better power delivery and efficiency.

The battery packs are LFP Blade units sourced directly from BYD. While most brands import battery cells and assemble them locally, Suzuki will import the full battery packs. This move simplifies production and ensures consistent quality, though it may increase the initial cost.

LFP batteries are safer, longer-lasting, and more heat-resistant than traditional NMC batteries, which is a big plus for Indian weather conditions.

Maruti e Vitara is shaping up to be a strong competitor in India’s growing EV segment. With two battery choices, rugged styling, modern interiors, and Suzuki’s reputation for reliability, it’s ready to take on rivals like the Hyundai Creta EV and Tata Curvv EV.
