Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch a bunch of interesting products this year. Early this year, we’ll get to see the biggest and most awaited launch from Maruti Suzuki- its first EV for India. Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has now released a teaser of the upcoming eVitara electric SUV.

Maruti Suzuki revealed the eVitara for the first time, in Milan. India launch is expected by March. The vehicle will make its first public appearance in the country at the Bharat Mobility Expo in January.

The latest teaser image shows a dark silhouette of the eVitara with the caption ‘Worth The Wait’ written above it. Parts of the headlamp and tail lamp can be seen- both lit up. It is true that Maruti Suzuki is late to the EV game in the country.

Manufacturers like Tata Motors and JSW MG Motor India have been dominating the affordable EV segments, closely followed by Mahindra. Hyundai will soon launch the Creta EV and join the rat race. When launched, the eVitara will have to compete with the likes of Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta EV, and Mahindra BE 05.

eVitara: Expected Design

The e Vitara looks modern and sporty. It keeps many design elements from the concept version shown earlier. It has a muscular design, with bold cladding and large wheel arches. The LED lights, especially the tri-slash DRLs, add to the futuristic appeal.

This SUV is slightly bigger than some of its competitors. It has a length of 4,275mm, a width of 1,800mm, and a height of 1,635mm. The wheelbase of 2,700mm makes the cabin spacious and provides enough room to accommodate the battery pack.

The Maruti e Vitara has a ground clearance of 180mm, which makes it suitable for Indian roads. Charging ports are located at the front, making it easy to plug in.

Interior And Features To Be Expected

The cabin would feel premium and modern. It has a clean dashboard with two large screens—one for the infotainment system and another as the instrument cluster. There’s a floating centre console with a rotary drive selector, and the overall layout is simple yet elegant.

The car will come with features like wireless phone charging, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, ADAS, adjustable rear seat headrests and more. Thanks to its long wheelbase, the e Vitara offers plenty of space for passengers and their luggage. The seats are designed to always keep you comfortable.

Platform And Powertrain Details

Underpinned by the Heartect-e skateboard platform, the eVitara will offer two battery choices- 49kWh and 61kWh. The smaller battery-powered powertrain will produce 144 hp and deliver a range of around 400 km, while the larger gets both a 174hp single motor and 184hp dual motor setups. The vehicle will come with Maruti Suzuki’s AllGrip-e AWD system.

Maruti Suzuki will source the battery packs from BYD and these would thus use Blade cell technology. These use Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cells, which are safer and more durable than NMCs. Instead of importing battery cells and assembling them locally, Suzuki plans to import entire battery packs. This approach would ensure better quality, cost effectiveness and makes the production process simpler.

Pricing Is Key

Honestly, there is no huge WOW factor in the e-Vitara, especially after Mahindra has disrupted the EV scene with the BE6. Thus for the eVitara to be successful, the right pricing would be critical. Maruti Suzuki should give it the perfect price upon launch in March. We expect more details to surface at the Expo.
