Mercedes Benz has launched the new AMG C 63 S E Performance in India, priced at Rs 1.95 crore. This is the third new launch from the German luxury carmaker this year and the third plug-in hybrid model in its domestic portfolio. The other plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models are the S 63 E Performance and the GT 63 S E Performance. The manufacturer has started accepting orders for the new car, and deliveries are known to commence from April 2025. Mercedes will also offer a complementary opportunity to race at the Nürburgring, to those who buy the new sedan.

The New AMG C63 SE Performance Gets Racing-Derived Powertrain Tech

The biggest difference on the new C63 S E is the powertrain. The monstrous V8  that we had seen on the previous generation is no more. The performance sedan instead comes with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine that is good enough to produce 476 hp and 545 Nm. The transmission on offer is a 9-speed automatic unit. The petrol engine also gets Mercedes’ hybrid tech that consists of a rear axle-mounted electric motor that brings another 204hp and 320Nm to the table.  This makes the combined output 680hp and 1,020Nm.

Interestingly, the turbocharger here uses F1-derived technology. It uses an electric motor and a 400V architecture to make the turbo spool faster, essentially eradicating any potential turbo lag. Mercedes AMG, as you might already be aware, is a tech leader and innovator in the F1 scene. It is impressive how it has managed to milk out so many horses from a turbo-four.

The sedan comes with 4Matic+ AWD system and even gets a dedicated ‘ Drift’ mode. The 0-100kph sprint is done in just 3.4 seconds, and the car has a top speed of 280 kph. The AMG Driver’s Package is offered as standard.

The electric counterpart of this hybrid system gets a 6.1kWh battery pack. Interestingly, this battery pack weighs just 89 kg, and the new C63 AMG has a claimed electric-only range of 13km. The sedan also comes with standard four-wheel steering. This system allows the rear wheels to turn up to 2.5 deg in the opposite direction (up to 100kph) and up to 0.7 deg in the same direction at higher speeds. The car gets 8 drive modes – Electric, Comfort, Battery Hold, Sport, Sport+, RACE, Slippery and Individual, and 3 adaptive damping modes- Comfort, Sport, and Sport+.

New AMG C 63 S E Performance: Interior, Exterior

The C 63 S E Performance comes with key visual deviations from the standard C Class. It gets a vertically slatted grille with active shutters, new, aggressive front and rear bumpers, wider front wheel arches and lightweight 20-inch alloy wheels. Talking dimensions, the length is now up by 83mm and width by 76mm, compared to the standard car.

The C63 SE Performance also comes with AMG-exclusive colourways like Matt Graphite Grey Magno and will also offer the choice of optional high-performance ceramic composite brakes. Ventilated and perforated metal discs are offered as standard fitments. The new car indeed comes with a lot of personalisation options.

The cabin has a similar layout to that of the standard C Class. It however gets an all-black colour theme instead of the lighter colour of the regular C, and an AMG steering wheel. Like the predecessor, it gets sports seats which wear Nappa leather and feature a ventilation function. There are multiple touches of Carbon Fibre and other premium trims inside. The feature list includes 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment, HUD, 710W, 15-speaker Burmester sound system, 360-degree camera, and ADAS among others. You can also opt for AMG Performance seats. The sedan also comes with 7 airbags and multiple safety features.

Price And Rivals

The new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance, with its hefty price, could be one of India’s most expensive four-pot cars. There are no direct rivals to the new C63. However, competition could arise from the 550hp BMW M4 CS (Rs 1.89 crore) and Porsche Panamera GTS (Rs 2.34 crore).
