As per reports, Mercedes Benz is offering discounts of up to 45 lakh on its electric luxury sedan EQS. A thread in TBHP says it to be offering a flat discount of 38 lakh. Furthermore, Star Gold insurance worth approximately 6.7 lakh is being offered for free. This takes the total benefits to 45 lakh. The post also says that additional corporate discounts can be availed on top of these. These have made the EQS 580 prices fall from the previous 1.62 Crore to 1.25 Crore.
Mercedes Benz’s flagship electric sedan has become more desirable with the revised prices. The manufacturer currently offers two different variants of the EQS in India: EQS 580 and AMG 53 4MATIC+. Out of these, just the former qualifies for benefits.
Mercedes Benz EQS 580: A Quick Look At It
Mercedes Benz is practising local assembly for the EQS in India, and this has helped them price it below the S Class. The EQS 580 features a milder design in comparison to the 53. It sports a less aggressive front bumper, a blanked-out grille adorned with multiple illuminated three-pointed stars, and smaller 20-inch wheels. Mercedes is offering a choice of five exterior colours and two interior upholstery options.
This luxury EV features a ‘Hyperscreen,’ composed of three screens seamlessly connected by a single glass panel that spans the entire dashboard, from pillar to pillar. Both the driver and front passenger have access to 12.3-inch displays. Additionally, it includes 12 actuators to provide haptic feedback and comes with pre-installed games for added entertainment.
The sedan also boasts features like 3D maps, a heads-up display, messaging functionality for the front seats, a Burmester 3D sound system, air filtration, and an S-Class-style MBUX tablet for rear-seat passengers.
In terms of safety, the EQS 580 comes equipped with nine airbags, lane change and lane keep assist and an emergency stop system. It has also earned a full five-star crash test rating from Euro NCAP. Additionally, it includes rear-wheel steering, but this feature will be available only to the first 500 customers.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 is equipped with a 107.8kWh lithium-ion battery pack, much like the 53. It gets two electric motors, one on each axle, generating a combined output of 523hp and 855Nm of torque—238hp and 165Nm less than the EQS 53. Despite the power difference, the EQS 580 4Matic can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of 210 kph.
The battery supports 200kW fast charging, and the EQS 580 has an ARAI-certified range of 857 km on a single charge. Recently, the sedan has set a new range record by covering 949 km in a single charge. In an initiative by Autocar India and Mercedes Benz, the EQS was driven from Bangalore to Navi Mumbai in a single charge. It was awarded the Guinness World RecordsTM title of ‘Longest distance covered by a production BEV on a single charge’ for the same.
The EQS surpassed the previous range record by a healthy 32.6km. Previously, the Ford Mustang Mach E used to hold the record for covering 916.74 km in a single charge. The Mach E had set its record in the UK, while the new record comes from our own country. During the record run, the EQS averaged speeds of 50-60 kph and delivered an efficiency of 8.80km/kWh. Smart use of the strong regenerative braking has helped in delivering the epic range numbers. The route consisted of cities, highways, and other regular road scenarios.
