JSW-MG Motor is going to kickstart 2025 with the raciest car that the brand has produced – the Cyberster. A homage to the MG B Roadster, the Cyberster is a two seat sportscar that will be brought to India in convertible form. JSW-MG Motor has just revealed key specifications of the India-spec Cyberster.
The car will pack twin electric motors – one on each axle – to make for 510 PS-725 Nm outputs. Clearly, these outputs make the Cyberster easily the most powerful car that JSW-MG Motor has ever launched in India.
The MG Cyberster will also get the slimmest battery produced by the brand, which at a thickness of 110 mm, will give the car its low slung stance. That said, the battery is quite large by itself, offering a capacity of 77 kWh, again making it the largest battery that JSW-MG Motor have introduced on an electric car sold here. The official launch of the Cyberster will happen in January 2025, and we expect it to be officially launched at the Bharat Mobility Expo on the 17th of January.
The 510 PS-725 Nm outputs will allow the MG Cyberster to hit 100 Kph from standstill in 3.2 seconds. Top speed is a heady 200 Kph but the point of this car is not about top speed but the insane acceleration that lets it get there.
In fact, MG even claims that the Cyberster’s the fastest roadster on the planet. That’s some really serious performance. As for range, expect the Cyberster to offer about 350-400 Kms in the real world.
Other key aspects of the MG Cyberster include a front double wishbone suspension, five link independent rear suspension, scissor doors (a first for electric cars in India) with dual radars and anti-pinch technology to ensure that it doesn’t collide with anyone, and high-performance electric motors with advanced cooling systems that’ll allow the sportscar to perform like a sportscar even at high temperatures.
Ground clearance of the Cyberster is a low 116 mm. Add a couple of passengers, and ground clearance will drop to very close to 100 mm, or even lower. Now, that’s not a car that you want to go cross country touring in, at least in India where speed breakers are measured in feet rather than inches. So, the all wheel drive system is clearly meant to make the car super quick between traffic lights and give it massive grip in the corners, not for off-roading.
JSW-MG Motor will be importing the Cyberster sportscar as a completely built unit (CBU). So, a price tag close to the Rs. 1 crore rupee mark is likely. This will make the Cyberster the most expensive car that JSW-MG have on sale here. The role of the Cyberster is to showcase the technology and performance that JSW-MG are capable of packing into their cars. Clearly, the Cyberster will function as a brand builder.
The Cyberster will be the first car that MG will sell through its newly established ‘Premium Car’ dealerships. Known as MG Select, these dealerships will be set up across 12 major Indian cities to begin with.
By 2026, the MG Select dealerships will have 4 new premium cars on sale, with the first being the Cyberster. The next big launch from MG Select will be the MiFa9 luxury MPV – a rival to the Toyota Alphard. You can read more about what the all-electric MG MiFa9 luxury MPV brings to the table here!
