JSW-MG Motor India will launch the much-awaited Cyberster sportscar in India in January 2025. The carmaker had previously showcased the sportscar at the event where it announced the JSW-MG partnership. The latest details confirm that the Cyberster would be the first model to be sold through the MG Select premium dealerships, and will primarily aim to attract buyers to sustainable luxury.
The Cyberster being an all-electric convertible, pays homage to the legendary MG B Roadster from the 60s, and gives the owner a good dose of open-air sustainable motoring. It gets proper roadster proportions, a lot of tech on the inside and a capable electric powertrain.
The two-door convertible will make its India premiere at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Expo. The car that was shown at the MG-JSW event was the European-spec and Left Hand Drive. Both single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD versions are available globally. Insiders had back then stated that the sportscar is being homologated for India and the India-spec would have slightly different specifications. It is most likely the RWD that would make its way to India.
The 500 hp version can do the 0-100 kph sprint in just 3.2 seconds. The global spec also comes with a certified range of around 500 km per charge.
MG Cyberster: Breathtakingly Beautiful Design
The most striking aspect of the Cyberster is its styling. It gets sleek LED headlamps with DRLs, functional air ducts, split front bumper, arrow-shaped connected taillamps, dual-tone 20-inch alloy wheels and a retractable roof. The doors and roof can be operated electrically through the press of a few buttons. The proportions and design stay true to those of classic roadsters, but with a touch of modernity.
MG Select Retailer Model
Along with the MG-JSW partnership, the brand also announced its premium retailer network- the MG Select. It will sell luxury and high-end products from the brand. MG has an extensive focus on bringing in New Energy Vehicles ( NEV) to the Indian market. These will include both luxury and mainstream models. The mainstream NEVs will be available at regular MG dealerships while the luxury products will be available through the ‘Select’ facilities.
MG Select will initially be set up across 12 cities. The program will provide curated touchpoints and experience centres for exploring the products. As it seems, the Select program is targeted at new-age consumers who seek exclusive, premium purchase and ownership experiences. It will expand its presence into more cities in the time ahead.
The luxury EV market is currently witnessing healthy traction in India, and MG Select aims to join the game with its product offerings. The Cyberster is expected to be the flagship and come at a price that fits one.
Creating a premium retailer network to build brand image and growing into the pricier side of offerings is a strategy we have seen many manufacturers doing. JSW MG Motor India seems to have clear visions about steering future business.
