JSW MG Motor India has plans to set up a new premium retailer network called ‘MG Select’. These outlets will be set up in select cities and will expand to more in a phased manner. MG plans to launch a slew of upcoming New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) through the ‘Select’ premium showrooms. Here are 4 such vehicles to expect. Most of these will be showcased or make debuts at the Bharat Mobility Expo.
MG Cyberster
The next big launch from MG is the Cyberster sportscar. Inspired by the MG B Roadster, the two-seat sportscar has a convertible body style and an all-electric powertrain. The two-seater will have a twin-motor powertrain- mounted one on each axle, with a combined output of 510 PS-725 Nm. This is thus the most powerful car that JSW-MG Motor has ever launched! 0-100 kph will be done in just 3.2 seconds.
It will come with the slimmest battery pack that MG has ever made- which means increased packaging efficiency. This unit is just 110 mm thick and gives the Cyberster a stylish, low-slung stance. The battery pack would be 77 kWh- the largest battery pack on any MG in India. The Cyberster would have a front double wishbone suspension and a five-link independent setup at the rear. It will have its India debut at the Bharat Mobility Expo on the 17th of January.
MiFa 9
MG Motor is set to launch its premium electric MPV, the Mifa 9 EV, in March 2025, following the market introduction of the Cyberster. Featuring a design and silhouette akin to luxury MPVs like the Toyota Vellfire and Kia Carnival, the Mifa 9 EV combines premium aesthetics with spacious interiors.
Powered by a 90 kWh battery pack and a front axle-mounted motor delivering 245 bhp and 350 Nm of torque, this EV will deliver a WLTP-certified range of 430 km. Likely to be priced around ₹65 lakh, the Mifa 9 EV will be sold through MG Select dealerships.
MG4 Hatchback
The MG4 is an all-electric hatchback. It is one of the products that’s being planned for India launch next year. It gets a striking design with swept-back tail lamps, a low and wide stance, an aerodynamic dual-spoiler and a flowing two-tone roof. The vehicle will also get a roomy, comfortable and tech-packed cabin.
The MG4 hatchback will be based on the E2 platform (successor to the MG Marvel’s E1 platform). The India-spec would come with a 64 kWh battery. The global spec gets a Lithium-ion NMC battery. It remains to be seen if JSW MG Motor India will offer the same in India as well. Expected driving range is about 450 km per charge.
The MG 4 will have an RWD layout, 50:50 weight distribution and at least three variants- SE, SE Long Range and Trophy (actual names might vary on launch)
MG5 Station Wagon
MG will also launch an electric station wagon in India- the MG5. The carmaker is known to be working on its next generation and it could be the new model that comes to India. It could also be based on the MSP ( E2) platform. The expected battery pack is a 61 kWh unit that’s claimed to return a range of 485 km per charge.
The vehicle will have an FWD layout and will do the 0-100 kph sprint in just 7.7 seconds. The electric motor will make 156 PS and 280 Nm. More details are expected to surface closer to the launch. We expect this wagon to make its India debut at the Expo.
