JSW MG Motor India’s latest launch- the Windsor EV has achieved another milestone by beating Tata Nexon EV in sales for the second month in a row. 3,144 units of the Windsor were sold in November. It had become India’s best-selling EV for the first time in October. The EV has also helped MG amass more market share and achieve a year-over-year growth of 20 per cent. The company sold 6,019 units last month.

The Windsor EV was launched in September this year, and in a months time rose to the stature of India’s best-selling EV. Tata Motors has been dominating the EV space for years now, and it is not every day that you see someone beat the Nexon EV in sales. MG’s achievement thus stands extra special.

In October, 3116 units of the Windsor EV were sold. This was significantly higher than the numbers clocked by Tata Curvv, Nexon EV, and Punch EV, which sold 1542, 1593 and 915 units respectively. In fact, electric vehicles constituted more than 70% of MG Motor India’s November sales. This shifting wind is expected to bring more fortunes for the company.

JSW MG India’s current EV portfolio consists of the Comet, Windsor, and ZS EV. It is expected to launch more electric and New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in the upcoming months.

MG has placed the Windsor EV quite competitively in the Indian market. The EV has an ex-showroom starting price of 9.99 lakh, thanks to the Battery As A Service (BaaS) model of ownership. In addition to this, Rs 3.5 per km has to be paid in battery rental. If you are to pay the full price instead, the ex-showroom starting price would be 13.5 lakh.

The vehicle is available in three variants- Excite, Exclusive, and Essence. The company has placed it as a Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV). It measures 4,295mm in length, 1,850mm in width, and 1,677mm in height, and is quite spacious on the inside. In terms of design, it gets bulbous body panels and clean surfaces. Key highlights include a split headlamp design, sleek-looking LED DRLs, connected LED DRL, stylish front and rear bumpers, 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, connected LED taillights, flush-type door handles and blacked-out C and D pillars.

The cabin gets an all-Black colourway with good-looking Bronze inserts. There are not many physical buttons available. Key features include a massive 15.6-inch touchscreen, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charger, a 9-speaker Infinity sound system, panoramic glass roof, automatic climate control, and cruise control.

Another striking feature is the Aero Lounge by MG seats- which can recline up to 135 degrees. The safety suite consists of 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Talking about the powertrain, the Windsor currently comes with an IP67-certified 38 kWh Li-ion battery pack. The electric motor drives the front wheel and makes 136 PS and 200 Nm. The ARAI range for the EV is 331 km.
