MG’s upcoming launch for the Indian market is the Windsor EV. The official launch of MG’s electric SUV is set to happen in September this year. Although this is not an all-new product, MG is conducting extensive testing to ensure that the electric vehicle is suitable for Indian road conditions. MG has released a couple of teaser videos of the Windsor EV, giving us a glimpse of what to expect from the upcoming electric crossover.

The first teaser video released by MG Motor India showcased the silhouette of the Windsor EV. In the first teaser, it was evident that the design of the Windsor EV is going to be different from other electric vehicles in the Indian market. It features a rounded or curvy design, which reminds us of an MPV. However, MG is calling it an Intelligent CUV. It is expected to be marketed as a crossover in India.

The electric crossover will come with all-LED headlamps and tail lamps, along with other modern-day features. We get a glimpse of these in the teaser videos released by the brand.

After this, we saw a teaser video where we got to see the exterior of the electric crossover. In this video, we see the Windsor EV being driven on tricky mountain roads. The crossover is driven through the negative temperatures in the mountains and performs without any problems. The electric SUV does struggle in some places, as this is a front-wheel-drive crossover, but the instant torque from the electric motor helps push it forward.

The next video was of the interior. We know that the Wuling Cloud EV, which is already on sale in the Indonesian market, has a premium-looking interior. The Windsor EV will have a similar design for the interior. The crossover gets black-colored leatherette upholstery with stitching patterns on it.

The main attraction of these seats is the recline angle. The rear seats get a 135-degree recline angle, which is the largest we have seen in any car. MG is calling it an airline-style seat. We also see ambient lights on the doors and speakers. The seats are 60:40 split and have copper-colored inserts on the doors. The upper half of the car is finished in beige or grey, while the lower half gets a black finish.

A steering wheel similar to the one in the MG Comet EV is also seen in one of the teaser videos. Additionally, the recent teaser video released by the brand shows the Windsor EV being tested in the extreme conditions of Gujarat’s Great Rann of Kutch. The car also comes with a glass roof, which gives the cabin an airy feel.

Regarding the Windsor EV’s specifications, we have no official information about the battery pack and electric motor. Internationally, Wuling offers the Cloud EV with two battery pack options: a 50.6 kWh option and a 37.9 kWh battery pack option. The Windsor EV’s electric motor generates 136 PS and 200 Nm of peak torque. It remains to be seen if MG will launch both these variants in the Indian market or just the lower variant.

MG also confirmed that the Windsor EV will be priced competitively, just under Rs 20 lakh. The CUV will compete with the likes of the Tata Nexon.ev in its segment.
