JSW MG Motor India, after months of waiting, has finally launched its Windsor EV CUV in India. This new model has been launched with a price tag of Rs 9.99. This brand-new all-electric vehicle from MG will be offered with a unique battery as a Service (BaaS) model. With this owners will have to pay Rs 3.5 per km instead of paying for the upfront cost of the battery with the car. The Windsor EV has been launched in three variants – Excite, Exclusive, and Essence.
MG Windsor EV: Details
With the Windsor EV, MG has taken a completely different approach in terms of design. Instead of going with traditional SUV styling, the company has made the Windsor EV a crossover and calls it a CUV – Crossover Utility Vehicle. As we all are aware, it is based on the Wuling Cloud EV, which is sold in many Southeast Asian countries.
Dimensionally, the MG Windsor EV will measure 4,295mm in length, 1,850mm in width, and 1,677mm in height. As for the wheelbase, it will measure 2,700mm. All of these dimensions translate into a stretched body style, which sits between an MPV and an SUV.
Design Details
Now, coming to the exterior design of the Windsor EV, it boasts a very unique, futuristic look. However, it does not feature any sharp body lines; rather, it gets bulbous and rounded-off body panels, which make it look very elegant. At the front, the Windsor EV offers a split headlamp design.
On top, it gets a set of sleek-looking LED DRLs, which also have a connected LED DRL strip in the middle. There is no traditional grille in the middle, as it is an EV, and the LED headlight units have been set in the lower portion of the bumper on each end. Lastly, there is an air dam in the middle of the bumper, which features a bejeweled design.
Moving to the side profile, this unique-looking electric vehicle from MG features a set of 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. A design highlight is the offering of flush-type door handles. It also gets a floating roof appearance due to the blacked-out C and D pillars.
As for the rear design of the Windsor EV, it gets connected LED taillights. The same smooth, flowing aesthetic continues with a simple bumper featuring a small silver skid plate. The overall design is very simple and classy.
MG Windsor EV: Interior and Features
The interior of the MG Windsor EV is just as unique as its exterior. It boasts all-black upholstery with beautiful bronze inserts that can be found throughout the cabin. Also, unlike traditional cars, the MG Windsor EV does not offer an array of physical buttons.
All of the important functions of the car can be accessed through a massive touchscreen in the middle. This makes the cabin feel very minimalistic and modern. Now, coming to the main highlight of the Windsor EV’s interior, it is its massive 15.6-inch digital instrument gauge cluster.
This is probably the biggest infotainment system that we have seen in any car in India. This unique electric vehicle also comes equipped with an 8.8-inch digital instrument gauge cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charger, 9-speaker Infinity sound system, automatic climate control, and cruise control.
Apart from these, it will also get a panoramic glass roof. Another major highlight of the Windsor EV’s interior is its rear seats. These seats can recline at an angle of 135 degrees, and this is called Aero Lounge by MG. The seats will also get a central armrest.
Coming to the safety features offered with the Windsor EV, it gets 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The list of its ADAS features includes lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and autonomous emergency braking. It will also get TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system).
MG Windsor EV: Powertrain Details
As for the powertrain of the MG Windsor EV, comes powered by a single electric motor. This front wheel drive motor generates a maximum power of 136 PS and 200 Nm of peak torque. As for the battery the company is offering the Windsor EV with a single battery pack option of 38 kWh. As per the company, it will offer a range of 331 km in a single full charge.
Apart from this, the company is offering a unique battery as a service option. With this the owners of the MG Windsor EV can lease the battery from the brand which lowers the acquisition cost of the vehicle. Also owners will be able to pay for the Kms that they drive and the company is also offering an assured buyback of 60 percent in 3 years. The cost of per km with this Battery as a Service model comes out to Rs 3.5 per km which is 40 percent of the cost of a traditional ICE vehicle.
