The MG Windsor has been a huge success for the manufacturer. It has been topping the EV sales chart for three consecutive months, with 3,785 units being sold in December alone. This is in fact, more than half of MG’s total sales. It even helped MG’s EV numbers to surge in the last month 2024. The EV crossed the sales of 10,000 units last month. MG’s net sales grew by almost 55% over December 2023. It posted sales of 7,516 cars. These, are in fact, higher than the November 2023 numbers of 6,019 units.
The Windsor is the third EV from MG after the ZS and Comet. The all-electric trio contributed to more than 70% of MG’s total sales this month. This the company says, has been its highest ever in India. This also shows MG’s booming acceptance as a popular EV brand.
The Windsor was launched in India during the festive season last year. On the manufacturer’s portfolio, it sits in between the Comet and the ZS EV and has a starting price of ₹13.50 lakh (ex-showroom). MG even offers a unique Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) way of ownership, which would further bring the price down to 9.99 lakh.
The BaaS model would require the owner to pay battery rent every month (₹3.5 per kilometre). MG spokesperson says “The Windsor EV emerged as a market leader, despite market challenges. Our innovative Battery-As-A-Service offering and customer-centric mobility solutions continue to shape the future of India’s automotive landscape.”
The ICE portfolio of JSW MG India consists of Hector, Gloster, and Astor. Of these, the Astor and Gloster are known to get major facelifts/updates this year. However, the carmaker will have a strong focus on introducing New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) over conventional ICE models. It will also set up ‘Select’ premium outlets for selling premium models like the upcoming Cyberster.
