Honda Cars India has launched the third generation Amaze in the country. The introductory prices, valid for 45 days from the 4th of December, start at Rs 7.99 lakh. The carmaker has now released the official TV commercial (TVC) for the car, on YouTube. The 1.14 minute video looks cool and highlights various aspects of the new Amaze. The new car comes with the tagline ‘Here to outclass’. The same is highlighted in various places inside the video.

The TVC starts by showing the car zooming past a photographer. The entire video has the motive of portraying the vehicle as good-looking and photogenic. Various cameras can be seen filming/clicking it at different timestamps in the video. Several highlights of the Amaze can be seen. It shows the design in detail and some of the features it packs.

Features like the Lane Watch camera, Honda Sensing (level 2 ADAS suite), CVT transmission, dashboard and its integrated air vents, and the rear AC vents can all be seen. The video even gives a glimpse of smartphone connectivity- likely Apple Carplay.

The new generation Amaze is available in 3 variants- V, VX and ZX. V is now the entry point. The top-of-the-line ZX has an ex-showroom price of Rs 9.99 lakh. The new Amaze is considerably larger than the previous car. It is longer and wider than before- and the same generates more room on the inside.

The designs of the front fascia and the tail have been thoroughly revised. The new car borrows some of its design cues from the City and the Elevate. It is available in 6 exterior colours. Design highlights of the front fascia are a larger hexagonal-pattern gloss black grille ( which looks like the one you see on an Elevate), a thick Chrome bar, dual LED pod headlamps (which are sleek but striking), and a new bumper with good-looking housings for the LED fog lamps.

The rear now stands closer to the City with its styling. The LED tail lamps resemble the ones on the new City and the bumper design is minimal but good-looking. The body lines, creases and embellishments- all impart a sense of size and premiumness to the design. The previous generation had C-shaped LED tail lamps. These being replaced with the large, sleek City-like units itself is a big aesthetic boost.

The interior sees a major overhaul in terms of design, layout and features offered. It gets a Black-Beige cabin colourway. The layout and styling would remind you of the Elevate. The car comes with a free-standing 8-inch touchscreen and a 6-speaker surround sound system ( which the manufacturer chooses to describe as ‘premium’).

It offers Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivities as well. Other features are automatic climate control buttons that look like the ones in the Elevate, wireless charger, PM 2.5 filter, connected car technology etc. A first it the model’s history, there are rear AC vents too- quite a helpful addition in the Indian climatic conditions.

The Amaze also comes with level-2 ADAS tech. This is a first in its segment and the sedan has also become the most affordable car in India to offer this.

No changes have been made on the powertrain front. The new Amaze continues to be powered by the same 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine from its predecessor. The output now is a good 90hp and 110 Nm. Two gearboxes are being offered- a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic. The CVT also comes with paddle shifters, much like what you’d see in a Honda City. Honda says they have reworked the suspension setup to ensure a more comfortable balance between ride and handling.
