All-New Bolero to Be Launched on All-New Platform

Mahindra’s Bolero has long been a familiar sight across India’s diverse terrains - from bustling city streets to rugged rural roads. Since its debut in 2000, the Bolero has earned a reputation for durability and practicality. Now, as it approaches its 25th anniversary, Mahindra is preparing to launch an all-new Bolero, built on a fresh platform that promises to redefine this iconic SUV for modern Indian drivers.
Set to be unveiled on August 15, 2025, Mahindra's new SUV platform is likely to be named the New Flexible Architecture (NFA). It is designed to support a range of powertrains, including petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric. This monocoque platform will underpin the next-generation Bolero, expected to launch in 2026. An electric variant, the Bolero EV, is also likely to follow.
The upcoming Bolero aims to retain its rugged charm while embracing modern design elements. Expect a more assertive stance, updated LED lighting, and a refined front grille. Inside, the cabin is set to feature a digital instrument cluster, a larger touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, and improved seating comfort. These enhancements align with the expectations of today's SUV buyers and might tempt a few urban buyers as well.
Under the hood, the new Bolero is anticipated to offer a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. It is expected to deliver around 117PS and 300Nm of torque, similar to the engine found in the Mahindra Thar RWD. A petrol variant may also be introduced. It could feature a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo engine in a detuned state. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual gearbox. An automatic variant may also be on the cards.
Recognising the diverse needs of Indian consumers, Mahindra plans to offer the new Bolero in multiple seating configurations. The standard model is expected to have a 7-seat layout. Longer wheelbase versions could accommodate 9 or even 11 passengers, featuring side-facing seats in the third row. These configurations will appeal to larger families or those using the vehicle for commercial purposes.
Safety and comfort are also at the forefront of this redesign. The new Bolero is likely to include features such as dual airbags, enhanced braking systems, and a reinforced body structure. These upgrades aim to meet higher safety standards. They reflect Mahindra's commitment to providing a safer and more comfortable driving experience for its customers.
With an expected starting price around ₹10 lakh, the new Bolero is poised to offer a compelling blend of modern features and traditional robustness. As Mahindra continues to expand its SUV lineup, the Bolero's evolution signifies the company's dedication to meeting the evolving demands of Indian drivers. At the same time, it stays true to the vehicle's enduring legacy.
