Looks like the winds are coming back to the compact sedan space. After Maruti Suzuki launched the new Dzire in November, Honda Cars India has now joined the game with the third-generation Amaze. Both vehicles have enough to put up strong fights against each other. Both cars have their own sets of strengths and weaknesses. In this article, we will talk about 5 areas where the new Dzire outclasses the new-gen Amaze.
1. Pricing
Both cars are priced quite competitively. Talking of the entry prices alone, it is the Dzire that wins. It starts at 6.79 lakh, ex-showroom, which is more than a lakh cheaper than the starting price of the Amaze. The top-spec, however, reverses the scenario. A range-topping Dzire is slightly more expensive than a top-spec Amaze.
2. Sunroof
The sunroof is a greatly sought-after feature today. Buyers specifically look for these when on the hunt for a new car. It was once exclusive to high-end and luxury cars. These days, it is available in mainstream cars and SUVs as well. Of the duo, the fourth-generation Dzire has a single-pane sunroof on offer, while the Amaze doesn’t. The Maruti compact sedan continues to be the only product offering a sunroof in the segment.
3. Styling
Of the two, it is the Dzire that looks better. The design here is a clear departure from that of its predecessor. Key highlights are a large front grille, cleaner lines and surfaces, new sharp angular LED (Crytal vision) headlamps, new two-tone wheels, new sharkfin antenna, a clean, hassle-free silhouette, boot lip spoiler, reworked bumpers and handsome LED tail lamps with Y-shaped detailing.
The exterior design of the Amaze gets a new front fascia, new LED headlamps, a large front grille, LED fog lamps, new front and rear bumpers, dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels, and City-like tail lamps. The design borrows a lot from the Elevate and the City.
The Dzire is available in 7 exterior colours. In contrast, the Amaze comes with 6 colour choices. Furthermore, the Dzire has a slight upper hand in dimensions as well. Both sedans have the same length- 3,995 mm. The Dzire is wider than the Amaze by 40mm. It is also taller by 24 mm. This means that the Dzire could be roomier than the Honda, on the inside.
4. Gets A CNG
The demand for CNG powertrains is on the rise and the Dzire bags a win there. It is available with a factory-fitted CNG engine. Based on the same Z12E engine, the CNG powertrain makes 69 bhp and 101.8 Nm. A 5-speed manual remains the only transmission on offer. It has a fuel efficiency of 33.73 kmpl. The Honda Amaze, on the other hand, gets just a 1.2L iVTEC naturally aspirated petrol engine. It comes paired with a manual and CVT automatic transmission.
5. Mileage
The Dzire takes the lead in terms of mileage. The Z12E being a frugal 3-cylinder engine returns fuel efficiencies of up to 24.7 (manual) and 25.71 kpl (AMT). The third-generation Amaze stands slightly shorter at around 19.46 kpl. If you are a buyer who is concerned about mileage, the Dzire is the way to go. If you’re ok with a slightly lower efficiency, the Amaze could fit in.
Bonus Point: Dzire Offers A Bigger Variant Spread
Of the two, it is the new Dzire that has a bigger variant spread. It comes in four variants- LXI, VXI, ZXI, and ZXI+. The Honda sedan offers the choice of 3 variants- V, VX and ZX. Unlike most other Honda vehicles, the Amaze trims begin with the V.
