Updated Tata Punch Micro SUV Launched At Rs. 6.12 Lakh

Tata Motors has updated the Punch lineup with a host of new features and new variants. In a way, the lineup is now simplified and better optimized for the average Indian buyer. Interestingly, the base price remains unchanged at Rs 6.13 lakh, but the top-spec variant now costs about Rs 20,000 less than the previous price of 10.20 lakh. Tata has also introduced additional limited-time benefits of up to Rs 18,000 on the micro SUV.

The Pure Rhythm, Accomplished, Accomplished SR, and Creative Flagship trims have been discontinued. However, Tata has introduced new trims like Pure (O), Adventure S, and Adventure + S, while retaining the entry-level Pure, Adventure, and Adventure Rhythm variants. The Accomplished Dazzle and Creative trims have been slightly revised.

For the CNG version, Tata has expanded the lineup from five to seven variants, keeping the Pure, Adventure, and Adventure Rhythm trims intact, but adding more mid-spec and top-spec variants. The price for the top-spec CNG variant is now up by about Rs 5,000.

Revised Feature List

The manufacturer has revised the feature arrays of select variants. The new Pure (O) petrol variant includes central locking, powered windows, powered ORVMs, and wheel covers, over everything that’s included on the base Pure trim. The Adventure S and Adventure+ S variants add features like a sunroof and rear AC vents to the Adventure Rhythm’s equipment array. Accomplished + and above come with a larger 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. Creative + and Creative + S trims also bring a wireless charger, Fast C type USB charger etc to the Punch.

Revised Colour Palette

Exterior color options have been reshuffled across variants. Pure trims come in Orcus White and Daytona Grey only, while Adventure and Adventure Rhythm trims add an additional Tropical Mist shade. Sunroof-equipped Adventure trims offer a Calypso Red option, and the Accomplished variants are also available in Meteor Bronze. The Creative trims offer five dual-tone options, replacing the Meteor Bronze found on the mid-variants with Tornado Blue. Before you feel intimidated, here’s a clear rundown:

Specifications

No mechanical changes have been made to the 2024 Punch. The ICE version continues to be based on the AFLA architecture, which also underpins the Altroz. This platform is known for its versatility. The micro-SUV currently has a wide range of powertrains on offer- NA petrol, CNG and electric. The Punch.EV, however, is underpinned by a born-electric platform called Ati.ev.

Coming back to the ICE version, the powertrains offered on the 2024 update, are 1.2L 3-cylinder petrol and 1.2L 3 cylinder petrol-CNG dual fuel powertrain (iCNG). No changes have been made to the outputs of states of tune. The NA petrol continues to produce 86 PS and 115 Nm. A 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT can be had with it.

The CNG powertrain on the other hand, has slightly lesser outputs. In pure CNG mode, it is rated to produce 76 bhp and 97 Nm, and can be had only with a manual transmission.

The Punch is also known for its safety standards. Packed with safety tech and with a solid build, the micro SUV has been awarded 5 star safety rating by GNCAP.

In India, it competes with models like the Hyundai Exter (Rs 6-10.43 lakh), Citroen C3 (Rs 6.16-9.42 lakh), and Maruti Ignis (Rs 5.84-8.06 lakh). Strictly speaking, the only real ‘micro SUV’ competitor among this is the Exter, as the other two are more or less tall boy hatchbacks.

Micro SUVs Are In High Demand!

Micros SUV sales have been climbing in India. With most of their variants priced under 10 lakh, these vehicles stand out with their design, usability and value offered. The Punch and Exter have been leading the pack ( which also includes vehicles from the immediate price periphery like a base-spec Brezza for example). In August alone 15, 643 units of the Punch (all powertrains combined) and 6,632 Exters were sold. Tata Punch currently enjoys the advantage of having an all-electric version on sale, over its Hyundai rival, which only comes in petrol and CNG forms.
