Nissan will launch the facelifted Magnite in India on the fourth of October. Ahead of the same, a few pictures have now been leaked, revealing key information on what the new sub-compact SUV will look like. They show the front fascia, rear end and interior of the upcoming vehicle.
Previous teasers suggested that the front fascia will have notable restyling gone into it. It will come with a larger grille with more attention to detail and refreshed headlamps. There will be a new front bumper with a large skid plate and improved LED DRLs. The leaked images have shed more light on these. Also, it is now confirmed that the car previously seen in the BNCAP crash test images of the Punch EV was the facelifted Magnite.
The new images show how the grille will look in the flesh. It shows two prominent Chrome strips at the front. The front bumper and its large Silver skid plate can also be seen. The headlights also seem to host changes, though not too shouty about themselves.
Previous anticipations said the new Magnite to get 7-spoke alloy wheels. However, one of the official teasers has confirmed that it will come with dual-tone 6-spoke wheels instead. These will look good in real.
As confirmed by a teaser previously, the tail lamps will remain unchanged in overall shape. However, they will have new LED elements inside and more attention to detail. The leaked images show these along with the tailgate design and the rear bumper with integrated skid plates.
Finally, a picture also gives you a quick look inside. The facelift will come with a new dual-tone cabin colourway. It will have revised interior styling, a new steering wheel, new upholstery and a larger touchscreen ( At present, an 8-inch unit is offered). Better quality trims and materials will be used. The flat-bottom steering wheel will get various controls integrated into it, along with Piano Black inserts.
Expected features on the facelifted Magnite include a 360-degree camera, connected car tech, height adjustment for the driver’s seat, digital instrument cluster, wireless charger, climate control with rear AC vents, wireless smartphone mirroring, power mirrors and windows etc.
Nissan hasn’t confirmed it officially, the leaked images do not show it, but rumours suggest that it could also get a sunroof- most likely a single-pane unit. Currently, no variant of the Magnite gets a sunroof. However, this feature is in high demand among Indian buyers, especially in this segment. A sunroof could thus add to the Magnite’s overall appeal.
The safety suite will likely have 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill start assist, traction control, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors.
Mechanically, no big changes are to be expected. The facelifted Magnite will feature the same set of engines and gearboxes as now. Currently, Nissan offers the SUV with a 1.0 NA petrol and 1.0 turbocharged petrol engine. The naturally aspirated version produces 71 hp power and 96 Nm while the turbocharged petrol is good enough to deliver 100 hp and 160 Nm. There are three transmissions available- manual, AMT and CVT. The hardware will likely remain unchanged. It remains to be seen if Nissan will come up with tweaks to the engines and their states of tune.
The Magnite has been a product of supreme importance for Nissan India. This update comes after four years of its market entry. It is thus critical for the manufacturer to get things right with the facelift and sustain the moniker’s acceptance here. Fingers crossed as we wait for the launch, and for more details to emerge…
